Honestly that's why I was never a fan. He makes it look too easy. I don't dislike him, he's too nice a guy to dislike. But he's just not very compelling. It's the same reason I always rooted for Agassi over Sampras. Sampras almost always won but I was an Agassi guy because it looked like he had to work for his wins. making it look easy is a sign of a guy who knows how to prepare. or a guy who can just think about the shot and play the shot quicker than anyone else to a higher accuracy than anyone else.

Fed is awesome, and so was Sampras. But I like to see the struggle. My favorite Sampras match wasn't him mowing down some scrub en route to another Wimbledon title. It's his quarterfinal match at the 1996 US Open vs. Alex Corretja. Sampras literally threw up on the court. Sampras ultimately prevailed and both men were completely spent; it was possibly my favorite match ever, even though the quality of the tennis by the end was quite poor. The crowd was berserk after the match. Corretja just sat there with a towel over his head until the crowd starting chanting, "Alex! Alex!" He finally got up and waved and the place absolutely exploded in cheers. Like me, they enjoyed the battle. A straight sets win is impressive, but as a fan you want victory to feel earned. Federer is the greatest, I don't think anyone can dispute that now. I respect the hell out of him, but he'll never be my favorite tennis player. He's too damn good for that.

I like him, but he definitely is not charismatic. Who is these days? Not a lot of Jimmy Connors fist pumps out there.
