Share your thoughts on Captain America: The First Avenger. I rated it 9 because it's one of the more underrated MCU films. There isn't too much humour, and it doesn't feel forced either, the action is great and has some good performances. A good old fashioned film in a modern age.

7/10. It doesn't have big powerful moments like The Winter Soldier & Civil War, but it's one of the most fun MCU movies to date. I always felt it was a bit underrated as well.

I didn't like it very much the first time I saw it. I guess the whole setting and color scheme kinda put me off. But when I saw it the second time I enjoyed it very much and have come to appreciate it. I absolutely loved Tommy Lee Jones in it. Every word that comes out of his mouth is pure gold!

10/10. One of the best super hero origin movies ever. Outstanding adaptation of comic book source material. Seemless blending of the super hero and war genres. Great action sequences. Great acting and a great performance by the entire supporting cast including a great villain.
PS. I almost rated it a 1 because you have 10 at the bottom of your scale. Can we standardize this please?

8/10
I deeply enjoyed watching it the first time, and liked it for the reasons here listed already. It did a good job blending the superhero genre in a World War II setting. Chris Evans did a great job capturing the spirit and character of Steve Rogers/Captain America. The supporting cast was fine, and the Red Skull was a decent enough villain.

It's been a few years since I watched it but I thought it was one of the better MCU movies, which is saying quite a lot. They got the right actor for sure, which was a shock because I thought Evans was annoying as hell in the Fantastic Four films. When they announced him as Captain America, I thought it was a mistake. I was wrong. Some beautiful visuals in this film and there was real chemistry between Evans and Hayley Atwell, which paid off with some very good dramatic moments in the next two Captain America films, which is rare in these types of films. 8/10

possibly the worst squandering of a great villain the MCU has perpetrated, contrasted by possibly the best portrayal of one of its hero (i'm giving this one some credit for Rogers going forward, as he was established here, and well).
some nice action. a good, period-appropriate tone. spotty pacing.
i like Peggy Carter and wish she'd have been developed more. you could argue there wasn't room for it with an already lengthy runtime but the romance felt lacking. maybe shave off some of the eighteen minutes of Tommy Lee Jones eating a steak.

A- For me it only gets better with age. I think the WWII era helps that timelessness - a 21st century CBM not sunk in a specific 00-10's year. Its steampunk infrastructure also helps keep it grounded, allowing the cosmic Tesseract with its supernatural effects a sense of carte blanche. I like the deep dive back into Rogers' origins with the film. Many origins seem to skim over things rushing to get their money's worth. Either do the origin properly like this & Superman, or don't bother at all like Amazing Spider-Man.
