I don't believe IMdB boards were shut down because of a lack of demand or trolling or because all the action is moving to social media. Hollywood's primary function is ideological and there were too many people on those boards subverting tinseltowns attempts to programme us to thinking and feeling the way they want.
....and because Bezos is a globalist cuck

I think the tilt of the politics board wasn't pleasing BIG MONEY BEZOS. No body give a shit about your opinions of a movie. Everybody's got one. The conservative opinion of the politics board was, excuse the expression, "trumping" the liberal democrats and I doubt the Washington Post owner like giving that much airtime to opinions other than his own

I believe the case was political. I mean, first Trump is elected President, then IMDb suddenly made a decision to shut the boards down on February 20th, one month after Trump's inauguration, and to pick President's Day of all possible days to disable them seems fishy. They could have waited until the end of the month.
I also believe that people involved in discussions for particular movies such as Ghostbusters (2016) didn't help in the least bit. The message behind the new film was driven by feminism, and it was pissing people off, so they took their opinions to the IMDb board.
That, and all of the rampant leftism floating around Hollyweird probably influenced Col Needham's decision to shutdown a board system that has been active since August 26th, 2002.
I can't really think of anything else that would cause them to remove it based off of what they claimed, especially since Amazon has their own forums for political discussions.

Okay, without calling anybody a globalist anything, it does make sense that this was a political decision, now that you mention it.
Otherwise, why not preserve the discussion boards as archives, at least, and take just a minimal amount of time to moderate and remove abusive trolling posts from the records?
It must be that too many people were expressing political opinions that they did not want on their boards, so they decided to get rid of the whole entire thing.
I am actually less offended by this possibility. The idea that some corporate jerks would just get rid of years of serious conversations that meant so much to so many people because it wasn't making a financial profit is so upsetting.

it's not just political though, i made several posts before the announcement to boycott the Ghost In The Shell remake for concern about keeping the original left alone, while also saying that people could watch it if they want, just not to see it on opening night, & someone suggested to buy a ticket for another movie instead... & then the whole thing was deleted almost instantly.
you don't want to mess with the corporate elite's stream of income... do you?

Ridiculous. No one is allowed to have an opinion anymore.

People would say some really nasty things and act like spoiled brats. Some people were incapable of having an adult discussion about a movie. They would just throw one insult after the next to anyone who had a different opinion.

The thought that people are okay with burning the largest film message board community to the ground because there are some whiny pathetic idiots too dirt stupid to press ignore or just not read a comment makes me fear for the future of mankind. Not trying to call you out I just don't understand how you complain that people would insult someone with a different opinion but you are happy with destroying the entire site because some people disagree with you?
Do you not find that a bit hypocritical?

Really? Is anyone capable of pouring a glass of water these days without seeing their 'political strawman' floating around in it?
Guaranteed, one way or another? It came down to money.

I wasn't complaining, just saying that I think that's why they shut it down. I couldn't care less about the rude people on there. They made no difference to me. I think the insults and name calling was the reason the message boards were taken away... because people are such sensitive pussies. I think it's ridiculous that it's gone.

Hollywood's primary function is ideological This is true, so long as we remember that the ideology in question is "we must make as much money as possible".

I believe it was definitely a factor, it is odd to me that after years of Left wingers being outraged about everything and attacking people that now that there is a Conservative resurgence they decide to close the boards.
Another factor is so many new films & TV shows getting slammed in the message boards.
