Beyond sad to hear, there is not one horror film or indie filmmaker that he has not influenced in some way. Zombies wouldn't even be around to be as played out as they are now if not for him.

RIP. Dawn remains my favorite zombie movie. Oh, and Martin (1977) remains my favorite vampire movie. Incredibly underrated.

One of my favorite movie experiences of all time was as a kid, having the TV on late one Saturday night in the mid-'70s, and this grainy, black and white, obviously low-budget movie began, with two unknown actors bickering with each other in a cemetery. The goofy brother's teasing of his sister was amusing enough to get my attention, and then out of nowhere....what happened next kept me spellbound for the rest of the movie. Not only was it one of the few truly frightening movies I'd ever seen, but it was one that I just had to recommend to everyone I knew. More amazing still was that Mr. Romero was able to make this zombie masterpiece on such a tiny budget. This work inspired many, many imitators, but the first was the best. Dawn of the Dead was pretty great, too, and I loved the music for that one, too. R.I.P., and thanks for that wonderful, creepy viewing experience!
