IMO, this was the very best sitcom of the '60's. Hilarious concept, funny scripts, and some of the best comic acting on TV.
My favorite characters were Uncle Fester, Lurch, Cousin Itt, and Thing.
This show was far better than THE MUNSTERS, which was really nothing but a typical '60's family sitcom, just played by literary horror creatures.
I only wish TAF could have lasted longer than two seasons, maybe even have been filmed in color eventually.

I always loved The Munsters. I never watched The Addams Family until more recently. I like the movies, so I thought maybe I should give the show a try. I really like it, too. I enjoy both shows, but my heart belongs to The Munsters.

Both are great shows ... I liked The Munsters slightly more.
The Munsters 9/10 The Addams Family 8/10

The Munsters has more classic style, but for humor, it's pretty difficult to beat The Addams Family.

I loved this show back in the day and I love it still. I even liked the movies which I thought were well cast.

It matched Charles Addams cartoons better that way, as well as the subject matter. For me the absolute best thing about it was Carolyn Jones as Morticia

It's right up there. I adored watching both the Addams Family and also the Munsters. I found them both pretty funny and visually enjoyable. I was envious of Morticia and Lily and yet I always related so much to Wednesday.

I agree with you about how fabulous Carolyn Jones was as Morticia. I have always loved both The Addams Family and The Munsters. They are both hilarious but in very different ways.

I loved The Addams Family when it was on, find that the years have not been kind to it. In its day it was one of those smart, sort of hip shows for bright kids along the lines of Rocky and Bullwinkle and anything featuring Ernie Kovacs. As to its comedy horror rival, The Munsters, I couldn't stand it, didn't care for the actors or the characters, while the Addams cast I really liked, right down to Ted "You Rang" Cassidy's Lurch.

Chock that up to faulty memory on my part. I had what I thought was a strong impression that this was a contrast with the two shows. To be honest I didn't watch the Munsters much in its second season. Maybe it was watching "Munster Go Home" the feature film which was in Technicolor that fowled up my memory. I think it was released about the time of the second season.

The Addams Family is on one of the local stations every Saturday night. I look forward each week to watching.

I LOVE the Addams Family!
I loved it waaaaay back in the mid 1960s, and I am really getting a new blast out of it these days, as I have recently purchased the DVD boxed-set.
(My ONLY complaint about it is that the damned things are double-sided discs!!!.....You know the ones....They are IMPOSSIBLE to keep the dust and fingerprints off!! GRRRRR!.)
I always liked TAF in preference to 'The Munsters'....even when I was 15 years old!
Thank you.

The Addams Family was much more sophisticated than The Munsters. Upon first glance, Gomez and Morticia look relatively normal. That can't be said about The Munsters, and that was part of their joke. The Addams Family worked harder for their laughs, and it always worked.

There is also an animated version of THE ADDAMS FAMILY, with John Astin as the voice of Gomez (who else?)
It's very funny and entertaining, except for those obnoxious neighbors the "Normalmeyers".

I guess I like the Munsters more than the Addams family. I just asked myself the question, if I just found out there was a newly discovered, never seen before episode of the Munsters on one channel and a newly discovered, never seen before episode of the Addams family on another channel and I could not watch or record both, which one would I watch --- the Munsters. I particularly liked Fred Gwynn.

Of the original cast, only John Astin and Lisa Loring are alive. Could somebody please post current photos of them?
