Maybe because I grew up with it along many other 80s comedies but people trash this movie and I have no idea why. It's funny, it was risky, had a cool monster and Lea frickin' Thompson. It's not a movie you take seriously, just have fun and roll with it. I even heard some dude say it was too cringey. Not sure what people are expecting of the movie.

the overlord stuff at the end was awesome. haven't seen it in a long time but it was cool seeing howards planet at the beginning with alternative earth type stuff like playduck magazine. really opened my imagination as a kid. kudos to tim robbins and lea thompson. and this picture shows george lucas is a genius.

The sex scene was just flat out weird.
I think a lot of parents at the time were pissed off because they thought it was a movie for kids. Turns out, it wasn't anywhere near that!
Though, I still think it's pretty awesome.

Because it's a crappy movie. Howard the Suck would be a more apropos name. The only entertaining part was near the end when a guy's car gets hit from behind and he instantly grabs his neck and yells "Whiplash. My neck my neck! I'm gone sues you."

Because it is an idiotic badly made movie that is absolutely nothing like the comic book.

I think we can all agree that Unforgiven is the superior duck movie.

Lea Thompson and she did fine vocal wise on several of Thomas Dolbys songs. Sure it got a silly plot but it also comes with lots of great 80s feel to it, and never once got boring. Easily a 6,5/10 type of movie, cheesy but my kind of fun.

She was talented and hardcore beautiful. Yeah Howard the Duck is awesome man, screw the haters lol

I loved it when I was a little kid. Finally saw it as an adult about 7/8 years ago and it didn't hold up. It's a fairly terrible movie. All the nostalgia goggles in the world couldn't improve it for me. Some great special F/X's for its time and they've dated a bit, but it's still not enough to save the movie.

The sex scene was just flat out weird. I think a lot of parents at the time were pissed off because they thought it was a movie for kids. Turns out, it wasn't anywhere near that! Though, I still think it's pretty awesome. Oh come on Marvel has plenty of interspecies romance as i do support interspecies love in Sci-fi/fantasy books/movies/games, comics, fanfiction, animation, video games etc. as Howard and Beverly were always a couple in the comics as they weren't the only Marvel interspecies lovers as you had Hepzibah/Corsair in X-Men TAS/Marvel comics (Human space pirate who is cyclop's dad having a romantic affair with an alien furry skunk-cat woman), Lilandra/Professor Charles Xavier (alien bird woman and mutant man), Beast/Carly on X-Men TAS (blue furry mutant man who resembles an ape-cat with a human woman) and Tigra/Hank Prym (human man married to a humanoid literal cat-woman with fur/tail and she even gave birth to his baby) all prove in Marvel you don't have to be the same species/race to fall in love. Problem with the movie is that the character is not a character for the children's market! people talk of the Ninja Turtles’ dark past, but even their original black & white comics weren’t *that* dark. The Ninja Turtles may not have started out as a series for kids, but it was still a light hearted satire of Frank Miller’s Daredevil and Ronin stories. Howard’s original comic book series especially the ones written by Steve Gerber, however, was full of mature themes and quickly grew a cult following as Howard faced off against foes like Dr. Bong or sat out an entire issue while Gerber dished out existential musings on life. The mistake of Howard’s 1986 film was not that it featured some mature content, but the fact that it was ever produced with consideration for the children’s market at all as executive meddling as they thought George Lucas was popular among kids. His reboot TV show if they make one should steer clear of making the same mistake, finally delivering the show both Howard and we, the viewing public deserve. Howard should be shown debating liberal-arts hippies from the local university and encountering strange creatures named after double entendres, such as “Man-Thing”.
