IMO, this is one film that ought to be remade. I really love the British original, especially the happy ending for the two dinos. But I had thought that they were wind-up toys, especially regarding mouth movements. Later, I learned that they were humans in costumes, but that doesn't make them look less artificial. With today's technology, Gorgo and his mother could look as real as the creatures in JURASSIC PARK. Generally, I'm not a fan of 3D CGI, especially when it dominates entire movies. But here, I think it could work out, using miniatures for London (or any other major metropolis). I'm willing to bet it could be more successful that that disasterous remake of GODZILLA in 2000.
BTW, those Japanese "monster" movies with 'Zilla, Mothra, and Rodan are a lot of fun to watch, as long as you don't take them seriously.

Gorgo 1961 is a rather charming giant monster movie in it's own way, and I too liked the ending, a surprice since it didn't followed the usual standard of how giant monsters usually winds up. A remake is offcourse possible, but I'm not sure if they wan't something terrorizing London, since there is real terrorists loose there.
They made Flood 2007, about London being flooded, with lots of CGI, but it didn't create much enthusiasm from critics or paying audiences.

They better not remake it. The original is perfect!

They better not remake it. The original is perfect! I disagree, for the reasons I cited in the OP. I don't know what species of dinosaur Gorgo and his mama were supposed to be, but if they were tyrannosauri, well, we have learned much more about them since this movie was made, especially how they carried themselves. In fact, in a remeke, T. Regina would be even more frightening, with her head (and mouth) closer to the fleeing mobs.

A remake could be a good idea. Marvel artist Steve Ditko drew for the comic 'Gorgo' in the 1960s and now that Marvel is the number one cinematic universe, anything Ditko has a ready-made fanbase; could be a huge moneyspinner.

Except maybe the location, since I had been told that Picadilly Circus doesn't exist any more. Like most major cities (NYC, especially) London has had to see the loss of major landmarks and businesses over the decades.

The only times I ever saw this film was when we had a B&W TV. Was it originally made in color? Mr. Ackbar's trailer looks to be a sepia tint.

Soho, Chinatown, Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square are all within walking distance.
