I find all of those things to be improved on a second viewing, and especially the way the story integrates itself into the wider MCU. It fits snuggly right in to the entire history. I find that my opinion of a movie almost always changes after a second viewing. Homecoming just felt jarringly underwhelming to me the second time 'round. Still enjoyable though. As MCU movies go I'd say it's middle of the pack or lower. My opinion has gotten better for all 16 films. Homecoming felt entirely fulfilling the second time around for me. I don't really rank them so I can't say if it's in the middle but it's as good as the series has been as a whole.

First it wonderfully melded the story of Spiderman into the entire history of the MCU so far. Second, the depiction of him as a high school student was far better captured. That felt like an actual high school. Third he was worried about his place in the world. Previous spiderman didn't touch this aspect of the character at all. This Peter wasn't moping over some girl, he was trying to grow up, and that's where this film succeeds above the previous ones.

If you think Peter in SM2 was just "moping over some girl" then you missed the whole point. It was actually about him struggling to balance his duel identities, an ever present theme of the comics. They do that in Homecoming as well but I thought Raimi went far deeper and delivered a more satisfying story.

No I got that he was trying to balance his life, it just involved a lot of moping that's all. I actually went home and watched S2 the night after I saw Homecoming and it was honestly hard to sit through. I couldn't be happier that we got this new take on the character.

It's almost like you've never read an actual Spider-Man floppy. You haven't, have you? (Spoiler: it's even worse if you have.)

I had the opposite experience. I rewatched the original trilogy a few days after Homecoming and (re)realized how much more I like them. Ok, maybe not 3, Homecoming is much better than SM3... but there are even a few (very few) things about that one that I found more enjoyable than Homecoming.

Its not even better than ASM1 Agreed! Depends if you want a movie that ignores that the rest of the Universe exists or not, and if you want the same old with Uncle Ben over and over and over. There's more to Peter than Uncle Ben.

Its not even better than ASM1 It's far better. ASM1 was a remake of SM2 and Homecoming is better than that one too.

Sure, Amazing 2 fumbled the ball in a lot of ways, but its still WAY better than Spider-Man 3.

Honestly, I LIKED the Amazing series... Ditto. Sure, Amazing 2 fumbled the ball in a lot of ways, but its still WAY better than Spider-Man 3. Amazing Spider-Man was an absolute turd; it was as bad as any comic book movie I've ever seen. The biggest fight that occurred in that theater was me battling the urge to walk out. I vowed never to pay for another Spider-Man movie, just like you vowed to pay me ten dollars for sticking to my first vow. I say all that to say: where's my ten bucks?

Are we talking about ASM 1 or 2 (which had Jaime Foxx)? I actually liked the first one over the Raimi trilogy (not a slam against them, although I prefer Emma Stone's Gwen over Kirstin Dunst's MJ). I never saw the second (I'd probably get depressed over...you know).

And the first one was just plain dull and soulless. Even Spiderman 3 crushes them both.
