In the 1965 film, Doctor Zhivago, there are several instances of characters using standard units of measurement. In one scene, a character tells another character that they have a 103 degree fever. This would obviously be 103 F and not 103 C. In another scene, it is mentioned that a character was killed 5 miles away. Doesn't Russia use the metric system? Shouldn't Celsius and kilometers be used instead of Fahrenheit and miles?

Shouldn't Celsius and kilometers be used instead of Fahrenheit and miles? There is an easy answer as to why this is not a goof. It's the same reason that the characters are speaking English and not Russian. The film was made by ( and primarily for ) non metric using, English speaking viewers!
