My Dana Andrews connection is a tiny one. I was hospitalized back in March in the hospital where died, a tiny place in Los Alamitos, California. He was a resident at the now gone John Douglas French Center for those with neurological brain degeneration, named for the neurologist husband of opera singer Dorothy Kirsten. Burt Lancaster suffered a heart attack there while visiting Andrews. One of Andrews' brother was vice principal at my high school back in the 1940’s and later on the faculty of Long Beach City College, as my housemate said he was frequently picked up by him hitchhiking to school.
But as far as the acting career of Dana Andrews, I enjoyed his work. Especially "Laura" and and his stuff at 20th. I do wonder if not for his drinking he would have had a better career.
