We all know that pets someday will go to another world. But it always comes as a surprice when they pass away. When little Palette left me (a cat) now almost 12 years ago, I wrote about it on old Imdb, I got so much warm support from other members, sadly I don't remember their names, except Addison de Witt who had cats over 20 Y/o. It helped me a lot back then RIP from me for your cat's death, teledm. I was on the other forum might have been one of those. I posted as gcarras. Hope your life's better. Addison is on this board. My messages will hopefully help your life.:-)

I miss "Ram," too. I thought that, surely, he would migrate to these boards. And, I agree about "Monterey/Scotty," who had another screen name, I think. His Tough Nuts To Crack were great quizzes. I often wondered how he came up with those questions. (MattGarth and Ram, were excellent at those. I often got 1 or 2.) "BigKingTut," didn't post very often, but he liked to present questionnaires about our personal memories, vis-a-vis the films we'd seen in various stages of our lives. He was meticulous about responding to every reply. "Addison DeWitt" was a prolific poster, for years. He disappeared, a year/more, before the IMDb format ended. Or, maybe, he changed his name, and I didn't catch on. No, he's still there, I just informed another here of Addison's presence. Hey, just look the names up?

I suspect quite a few CFB'ers from back in the day are around, possibly lurking. Would be great if they would make their presence known!

Cooper, the Golden RetrieverRe: Addison deWitt being here. Are you referring to the "Addison" who joined April 24th and posted twice (both notes now missing) and has not been heard from since? That does not sound quite like "olde CFB's" Addison at all !

Harold Robbins was fairly active on the old boards. Miss him. Samoan Bob's another, mostly on westerns.
Sad to say, Dusty's gone. He was suffering from cancer and I forget whether he did himself in or the cancer got him. It was sad; some time in the latter half of last year.

He was a good man and will always hold a special place in the memories of all who interacted with him on CFB and FG.

Dusty basically just disappeared and there was much speculation as to what happened to him since he had talked suicide for so long and so publically.
Ditto tomcat - the disappearing not the suicide talk PKLarken's daughter did log on and she posted that her mother had died.
I miss Spikeopath. His reviews, especially on the western board, were outstanding. He was always ready to help with any technical problem that cropped up.
Many of the regulars seem to have logged on here using their old-IMDb names and then decided to move on. Some never seem to have turned up here. Sadly, many of the better posters just vanished.
OldAle was cranky but actually quite cool ! After the Year-Poll fiasco, who could blame him for not bothering ?

I liked Old Ale. He was an old reliable.
Then there was that old dude from Chicago, Racoombs, probably gone now; and his friend, then foe, Lawrie, also old. Rac was an excellent writer and possessed a fine mind. Alas, he was super-opinionated, and many of his opinions were negative.
As he aged he seemed to lose touch with reality. One of his most salient traits was his dislike of not so much the genre but the term Film Noir. Film Nwar to the Rac. It was sad to watch his decline and eventual (apparent) departure.

dolfanatic314 from the General Board. Yeah I liked that guy too. Do you remember Dusty from the general board? He was very depressed before the boards closed because his mother had passed away. I kind of worried about him because he quit posting and many speculated he may have ended his own life. Sorry to be depressing. No, not offhand. Another guy I remember was one from the I Need To Know board who was from India. He was one of the better film solvers. I have a feeling that he might (or might not) have been killed in one of those Indian train crashes in which a train falls off the side of a mountain or cliff. In which a hundred or more are killed. I noticed he stopped posting after one of those INFAMOUS crashes.

Anyone who frequented the old "I Need To Know" board must remember JACK. He was obsessed with the THE LAND BEFORE TIME" series of animated features. For at least the last few years of those boards Jack continued to post thread after thread about his concerns for the series. He was particularly obsessed with the upcoming entry. It was something like THE LAND BEFORE TIME XIV. He was desperate to reach the filmmakers to share his ideas about the script and about whether Kiefer Sutherland would be reprising his voice role from the earlier films. We all thought he was insane. Despite all the advice we gave him he would never stop posting new threads. Everyone was sure he was quite mad. I hope he eventually found peace. YES, I remember Jack!! BUT there was actually QUITE UNBELIEVABLY another poster who WAS MORE ANNOYING than Jack. BUT at least he had multiple obsessions unlike Jack.

There was a poster on the IMDb's Western board who died and his wife, sister or daughter took over his account to tell us.

Old Ale was indeed old reliable, cranky but reliable. Racoombs was awesome but towards the end he just seemed angry. I felt bad for him. I think he was the one that MrsEQ would constantly refer to as her 'old internet friend'. Guess they kept in touch. And, if it's true can't blame him for being angry, she was a pisser!

I'm glad you remember the Rac, Mike. He was awesome at his best, seldom in display in his last year or so on the boards. Totally forgot about his being friends with MrsEQ. Talk about opinionated!
As to many fondly remembered old-timers, I wonder how many have changed their names when they came here or elsewhere. There was an amorphous quality to that actual screen names of many people I knew on the old board, some of whom just changed their screen names for the heck of it.
One guy I liked and was pals with was Hobnob. If he's here he doesn't use that name. I haven't seen that name since the boards shut down, and I know his real name,--no secret about that, I can tell you if you want me to--and haven't seen that or variations or improvisations on it that I can recall.
Then there was Gemini/Lorraine, the operetta fan, and a nice person. Some offbeat ones, too, like the Jeff Chandler fanguy who went by the name E.B.'s friend. If anything Chandler came up he was there. It's like he had a Ouija board or something.
A great poster who just seemingly literally dove in as needed was Rich Wannen, who may well have worked for the IMDB. The guy knew everything about what he posted on with a professional authoritativeness and thoroughness I've seldom seen anywhere on the Web where films are concerned. With him it wasn't so much his opinions that mattered as the sheer depth and scope of his knowledge.

He was probably the most educated poster regarding movies and Hollywood that I have ever read. I truly hope he sees this thread and comes back. Most of the posters whom I miss were on the GWTW board. There was digitaldiva, bradford, and even that annoying pest, photo66666, LOL. There was a lot of info exchanged on that board, including a picture of Vivien Leigh's granddaughters--very beautiful girls.

Hob's the one whose absence I've most keenly felt. Like you, I exchanged PMs with him and shared biographical details, and miss hearing about him and his lovely and talented wife Catherine or movie nights at the yacht club, along with his lengthy and informative posts and the unabashed manner in which he'd get up on his hind legs about politics or in his running battle with MEQ about "the age thing," which was both adversarial yet strangely affectionate (in an exasperated sort of way). And the puns! BATouttaheck knows I love and shamelessly engage in them, but Hob could top me every time.
