A grown-up Stockwell as the Alexander Haig-like (and lookalike) Defense Secretary telling Veep Glenn Close 'I'm in charge here' in AIR FORCE ONE.
Also another 'Howard Hughes' performer in TUCKER: THE MAN AND HIS DREAM.

Just watched him in a Combat episode where he's cast as.. a gung ho killing machine! Yet he plays the role in his usual reserved, soft-spoken style. The effect is curious but memorable.
And FWIW, the title of this episode is "A High Named Today". Does anyone have a clue as to what this title means? I'm stumped...

As Al in 'Quantum Leap' he often seemed to be chomping on a cigar, like Hannibal (George Peppard) in 'The A-Team'.

From Kim (1950) costarring Errol Flynn and Paul Lukas. Pretty good but underrated coming-of-age adventure flick.

Reading the synopsis for this episode, it's seams that Stockwell's character lives like this day will be his last, and that that might be the high for him. Just a guess...

Tried to watch it a few years ago on Youtube, but the sound was bad and the hair was anything but green, in other words a lousy copy.

So why did his hair turn green? Please spoil it for me. It was a metaphore, for peace, understanding, never again after WW2, as long as their is hate his hair is green...

One of the greatest child actors ever! I particularly love him in The Boy with Green Hair and The Happy Years.
And, of course, he grew into a very fine adult actor with memorable roles including Quantum Leap, Blue Velvet and his hilarious mobster in Married to the Mob.
The only time I didn't care for him was in Sons and Lovers. He is awkward in the role, so clearly not a lad from the English Midlands.
Otherwise, a very talented, charismatic actor. Unfortunately he appears to have slowed down or retired in the past couple of years, but what a long and impressive career he has.

A few days ago I watched Cattle Drive (1951), an uncredited western remake of Captains Courageous, with Stockwell as the spoiled rich kid and Joel McCrea in the Tracy mentor role. What was fascinating to me was seeing 15 year old Stockwell already employing some of the acting mannerisms -- the cold eyed stare, the calm-voiced but simmering display of anger -- he would so often use as an adult.

He is one of my very favorite actors--from childhood to adulthood.
He was one of the very best child actors..I loved him in: The Green Years (1946) Gentleman's Agreement (1947) The Secret Garden (1949) Kim (1950) where he just dominated the movie. Stars in My Crown (1950) ditto [See this movie]
Young adult: Compulsion (1959) Sons and Lovers (1960)---Wonderful movie well cast Long Day's Journey Into Night (1962)--Wow what a great version of Eugene O'Neill's original play transferred to film with a great cast and directed by Sidney Lumet!!
Adulthood: Married to the Mob (1988) --finally Oscar nominated
His acting seems natural....at all stages of his life..and that is an unusual trait.

He's one of the longest running child actor to adult success stories. I first recall him on TV's Quantum Leap. Just watched him on Christmas Eve in Song of the Thin Man as Nick Charles Jr. I wonder if he'd have continued in the role if they'd continued the series? ------------------------------------ Lebowskidoo--Did you get to see all of those Thin Man movies a few weeks ago? I'm not as much of a fan as you, but there is a lot of William Powell/Myrna Loy there..

It was nice to take a day and just binge. Powell and Loy and all their supporting characters, such a great day of movie watching excess. And, I may have broken a personal record for number of movies watched in one day ever, because I went on to see three other movies that same day, for a total of nine! But that's what the holidays are good for.

Wonderful character actor. It seems like he has been in everything. I love the way he seemlessly flows from movies to TV and back again.
