One of my favorite shows from my childhood. The original mini-series and The Final Battle hold up pretty well despite some laughable special effects. Never saw the tv series that followed.

Both mini-series (original and The Final Battle) were amazing. The tv series that came after was hurt by obvious budget cut and end with a cliffhanger, but its watchable.

WAY MUCH BETTER than the CRAP 2010 REHASH!!! The 2010 RETREAD was one of the WORST tv-series (science-fiction and otherwise) of ALL-TIME.

It introduced me to the beautiful Morena Baccarin. How can I complain about that?

There was only the one tv series (that failed) right, from not long ago? And the mini-series in the 80s that I watched, loved but barely remembered. I remember being very excited for the new series and then it didn't even hold my attention. I also still has a crush on Scott Wolfe left over from Party of Five and a high tolerance for crappy tv, so that's saying something for sure.

There were 2 mini-series' and a full series (that only lasted 1 season) in the 80's. Then the recent reboot series lasted 2 seasons if I recall.

The mini-series was surprisingly good, even when I knew how the aliens would look like (thanks to my DVD copy who put a big spoiler alert right there on the backside) still, I enjoyed it and gave it a 7/10 rating. The Final Battle was also very good, the TV-series however was poor and not one I will likely to watch again, where as the Mini-series and The Final Battle is classic 80s sci-fi. Never seen the remake/updated version, but if I come over a decent priced DVD copy, I might give it a chance.

All the kids at school were talking about V the day after it first aired, I had a bedtime and wasn't able to stay up that late to watch it. Luckily, a year later NBC reran it right before The Final Battle aired and I got caught up. Both were excellent, the TV series was sort of a disaster but I stuck with it. The remake was even worse, nothing ever really progressed and the characters were were super annoying, especially Tyler.

Havent watched it since the 80s--the series ended badly. They had a good hook for a sequel since they sent a message into space to contact an alien race that was at war with the lizard ones--could have been an interesting avenue to pursue.

it definitely owed a bit to spielberg and lucas. great cast and story line. nice special fx. should get more mention when talking about films from the 80's even though it's a miniseries.

The set up of the story is almost exactly like Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End but from there it diverges wildly. It is a good series and maybe the best that could have been produced at that time. The effects are not very good but effects don't necessarily make or break a series or movie. So, in this case, I liked the actors/characters enough to look past the special effects and production. It was certainly better than the remake. Though I still cannot get past the idea that one of the aliens (in full human body suit) managed to have sexual intercourse with a human girl and get her pregnant. She had a child (which has to rank as one of the silliest births in tv history when that lizard puppet lifted its head) and that child led to the very silly, unsatisfying finale. Best not to place too much logic on it. Also, we had established the visitors were very strong, much stronger than the humans and yet after that initial fact was established we saw humans kicking the crap out of them at will. Despite all that I did enjoy it enough to give it a 7/10.
I would give it a 7/10 overall.
