Which three albums by which artist would you say is the greatest three-album span in history? Has to be studio albums only.

Iron Maiden: Powerslave - Somewhere in Time - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son If we are going with Iron Maiden, I would say Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, and Powerslave. Otherwise, I say the Flaming Lips with The Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, and At War With the Mystics.

Bringing It All Back Home (1965) Highway 61 Revisited (1965) Blonde on Blonde (1966)
Let's be honest, nothing else comes remotely close. (3 great Nick Cave albums above though)

The Fall, not three but five -
Live At The Witch Trials Dragnet Grotesque (After The Gramme) Hex Enduction Hour Room To Live
Some people may quibble about the latter, but they're wrong.
Hawkwind, also five (or four if I was being hyper-critical, the opening song on the debut irritates me unless I'm in a really tolerant mood) -
Hawkwind In Search Of Space Doremi Fasol Latido Hall Of The Mountain Grill In Search Of Space
Belle & Sebastian -
The Boy With The Arab Strap Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like A Peasant Storytelling

The Beatles: Rubber Soul - Revolver - Sgt. Pepper's LHCB - The White Album - Abbey Road Ding! Ding! We have a winner. Although in the U.S., we had Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine stuck in there.

X, Beatles, Ramones, Nick Cave, Cramps, Belle & Sebastian (though I'd have chosen the first three albums..) are all good choices...
I'll put up: REM (Murmur, Reckoning, Fables of the Reconstruction, Lifes Rich Pageant) Yo la Tengo (Painful, Electr-O-Pura, I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One, And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out) The Jam (In the City, This is the Modern World, All Mod Cons) Fugazi (In on the Kill Taker, Red Medicine, End Hits )
