I wouldn't go so far as to call Sgt. Pepper's utter crap, but I do think it is the Beatles' most overrated album. OK, calling "Sgt. Pepper's" " utter crap" may be a bit too much. But it is crap. If anyone runs home to play "Within You Without You," "Fixing A Hole," "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite," "When I'm Sixty Four"...then they need a better life. Those four songs are among The Beatles worst ever songs...and they are on one album! Four bad songs on one album equals crap album. (I will admit I personally do like "When I'm Sixty Four," but I do recognize that many people really hate that stupid little song. The other three - "Within You," "Fixing A Hole," "Mr. Kite" are absolutely terrible songs and I do hate them.) I've always liked Fixing a Hole, but I'm more into hooks and the sonic quality, don't care about the inane lyrics. When I'm 64 is typical Paul ditz. Seems silly now that 64 is the new 44. Should have been when I'm 84 or 94. Nothing wrong with Kite, musically. I suppose it's John's version of Paul ditz. Used to always drop the needle after Within You Without You on side 2. I like Patti Smith's cover version.

The Monkees (well, maybe more accurately "two very good albums followed by utter crap"): Instant Replay Present Changes (a dreadful album)

Great thread Alpha. I think your pick of the Judas Priest albums would be exactly what I would've thought of first. But since that was already picked, I'm going to go with Black Sabbath. Sabbath bloody Sabbath, Sabotage, and then Technical Ecstasy. I also think Mr. Ackbar had a very good pick as well

The Cult - Dreamtime...Love...and it went to shit with Electric (their manager tried to market them as a hard rock act and just wasn't their style)

The Cult - Dreamtime... Love...and it went to shit with Electric (their manager tried to market them as a hard rock act and just wasn't their style) Dude, you couldn't be more wrong. Yeah, when I bought "Electric" I thought, "What the hell is this shit?!?" It was the dumbest thing I ever heard. It was an insult to anybody with even a spark of intelligence. Slugs and snails laughed at the idiocy on "Electric." Check out these lyrics: "I saw the devil The contrary man I saw the devil down the long, long road He said to me, boy He said to me, boy He said to me, boy I want your soul I said no I said no I said no You can't take my soul" And that's actually an example of great lyrics on the album. Man, that album was dumb. Moronic lyrics matched with AC/DC music that eleven year olds love. However.... After you get over that initial shock one starts to see that "Electric" is absolutely brilliant. It is the best example of stupid fun in the history of man. The album is a blast. I mean the fucking album has a song entitled "Love Removal Machine" "Shake it up, baby baby." Absolutely fantastic. (By the way, I saw The Cult before "Electric" was released and they played a new song. Ian announced it as a new song and said, "This song is called "Love Removal Machine." I swear to you, the audience laughed their asses off (myself included). "Love Removal Machine" We thought he was joking.)

Hey, "Love Removal Machine" is one of my favorites by The Cult. (Saw them a year+ ago at The Foundry in Vegas -- enjoyed seeing them.)

It's not so much the songs as it was changing their act - it felt so out of place for them and forced.
The original mix of a few tracks from there were much better than the raw edge they were given for the release.
I don't totally hate it, but it was a gimmick.
At least they released alternate mixes for a couple tracks from there.

Sisters of Mercy: First and Last and Always, Floodland, and then the execrable Vision ThingNever rated them much anyway, besides the titanic Temple of Love.

Oasis? not into them, but it seems like they fell. last 4 (or is it 5) albums were turgid garbage. Noel had run out of ideas way before the last album.

I love "Temple of Love", especially the original version, but I can't emphasise enough how good they were in the early days when they got it right. The entire second side of First and Last and Always is absolute perfection, and some of the early singles are magnificent. I personally prefer their really early stuff before they really nailed down their distinctive sound: Debut single (the only thing they recorded without a drum machine): Adrenochrome:

To me, every album that has been released from the Oak Ridge Boys after my late beautiful precious Steve Sanders left the group is nothing but crap.
God bless you and Steve's family always!!!

Didn't notice much dropoff with The Cult's third album. Wasn't paying attention to the lyrics, though.
