It's easy to be a winner, Matt. But it's how we behave when we lose that reveals our true character. All of us have had the experience of missing a point because someone else posted the correct answer mere seconds before we posted ours, and all of us accept it graciously -- with the exception of one person, who disrupted today's game with her childish tantrum, insulted you, and then returned without having the grace to offer an apology. But, otherwise, it was a grand game, and I thank you for creating it and for presiding over it. Wait, why do you pretend that you weren't on IMDb boards? I don't pretend I wasn't on the IMDb boards. Is this your attempt at deflecting attention away from your offensive behaviour today? It won't work.

You need more time for another edit? Three more minutes and maybe you'll think of one more petty, ignorant dig.
And you do know that you are one of two players who, for some reason, can't be arsed to start each game reply as the instructions say to and like everyone else does, with the numerical match and the unknown link. That's literally every answer in a game structured like this one: numerical match followed by common link. It's the answer to the very question the game is asking.
Example: 011/142 -- Alfred Hitchcock
Oh look, that example took 15 seconds to type out.

Cat got your tongue? Is it named HypocriticalBusybody?
How about this: You are the neediest, most demanding, most-often-non-game-answer-post-right-in-the-middle-of-the-game-replying poster in all of Garth Games.
When the QM is plainly and clearly 1-2 hours behind in scoring, and none of the rest of us say peep about it, you are always in there posting some me, me, me nonsense citing your 7-10 minute-old guesses:
So, matt, does that mean this is NTA, or what?
And what does the QM do? He replies to that pile of ridiculousness politely and with respect.
Yet when I post something eminently reasonable about a clear and ongoing rule violation which might irk anyone who does follow the rules, I get disrespect, condescension and a rude emoji to illustrate it. That's what goes on; since you're having a little trouble nailing it down correctly, I thought I'd lend a hand.

OK Diana -- so far I've remained out of this, but no more. I already apologized to you for taking your complaint too lightly, responding with just a tease that was not meant to insult. But I got plenty of insult back. And for a game you called 'tripe,' you sure made an active comeback.
I cut Mick and Kijii (and some others) some slack because I know of their particular typing and posting situations and difficulties. You seem not to have noticed that I tell posters that last names of performers are sufficient, yet you choose to include full name responses (which would take you longer). I look the other way.
I try to schedule the games across 24-hour time zones so that more people (Tele, Aussie, etc.) can be involved. I create more answers (50-60-80-100) so that latecomers can still participate. I try to finish up so that I can take a family dinner break and not leave lots of answers piled up. There have been other game hosts who just post their quizzes and then disappear for hours -- and even days. I try to stay with the responses as closely as possible.
Until today I have never been accused of playing favorites. I try to treat all players as welcomed guests -- you included, who I have been kind to. I didn't realize you lacked a sense of humor or were so thin-skinned about today's mild jest that set you off.
The upshot of today's unfortunate events is that what used to be a fun activity for me and for the regulars has been soured -- perhaps beyond repair. Instead of a pleasant activity, it has become a battleground. So it's best if the games just cease being presented.

Matt -
Your games have helped me to keep what little sanity I have left. I appreciate all of,your hard work and am sorry for any grief you have had come your way because of them.
It osm't easy for me to play. I am half blimd, using an iPad, trying to survive in a madhouse with a demented roommate and a star that doesn't,t understand. I have been on high dose Prednisone for five weeks and being tapered off, so I am a little crazy myself right now. At home, my 91 year old housemate has hurt his back and is trying to figure out how he can get to the hospital and not leave our cats starving. I don't even know our neighbors as they have moved in since I got sick. I haven't been to my house for almost a year.
So needless to say, the GG's have been a major beak for me and beating up on the QM is not the way to treat someone who has tried to bring on the fun for so many. I may gripe a bit because I hate the timing of some of the quizzes, but I have nothing but praise for Matt and his putting up with all of us.
I can understand him wanting to take a break from us, but I don't have to like it.
Matt- do what you need to do. I understand frustration.

So it's best if the games just cease being presented. Oh no, matt, please don't do that. That would be a real shame. I, along with many others, agree with Julie. Let's just keep on playing the games as usual and ignore the outlying complaints. Win or lose, we enjoy the games and find the QM to be totally fair. Here is my rule of thumb: What the QM says is the way it IS.

mattgarth So it's best if the games just cease being presented.
I enjoy reading the games I have missed just to see how they play out BUT the ending of this one proved to be potentially tragic. I add my hope that you not be disheartened by the behavior of someone new to the beloved GGs. Man, if we all threw a tantrum over the when someone else beats the clock... we'd never finish a game ! I remember playing my very first GG and how welcomed I felt when you acknowledged my first answer (which was wrong, btw !) WE appreciate all that you do and your many kindnesses . Hopefully all will seem brighter in the morning and the GGs will continue to be fun to make and to play! Stealing kijii's excellent words : Let's just keep on playing the games as usual and ignore the outlying complaints. Win or lose, we enjoy the games and find the QM to be totally fair.

I'll just add one more thought to yours, Bat.
No one is forcing anyone to play these games.
They are only here because Matt puts in a lot of time constructing them and giving us real input while in the process of playing them.
I'm not sure if there is any other live action race where people can play against others from around the globe in real time (whatever their time may be).
For a lot of us, they are lots of fun and gives us enjoyment from what otherwise might be boring (sometimes troubling) lives.
I have said it before: they give me an adrenaline rush and (unlike gambling) AND they cost nothing to play.

Dear Matt,
I don't understand all this fuss someone is causing, but if you need a break, you deserve it. GGs have been one of my biggest pleasures on these forums and I thank you for your enormous contributions to my fun.
Best wishes.

Not me personally, but others have felt her scorn. Sadly, some posters seem to need to go on the offensive when given the opportunity. dianachristensenWhen you ranted at airborn the other evening over on the SB, I figured that somehow you had been triggered by his silly note with his tale of woe regretting not getting a girl's phone number at the gas station. When I saw and participated in your Tribute thread to a nice member of the Soapbox community, I hoped that the previous exchange had been a one time thing. Now I see that the "fast moving trivia game " you referred to in the tribute thread was this one in which you attacked and abused one of the nicest guys on these boards EVER. So many places that welcome and thrive on disputes and sturm und drang and you came to the GGs. So the question is .... is it a Sybyl or a Jekyll/Hyde thing ?

I took the trouble to read the whole thread before posting. I missed this game . I'm up in the desert above Santa Fe and Wifi is irregular.
Genuinely can't see this person's beef other than getting aced out of an answer, and it Is heartbreaking when it's 14 seconds apart. One way this board is an improvement over the old IMDB is that it is virtually impossible for posts to even appear out of order. So if my post is after yours that's the end.
I've always found Matt forgiving about posting as long as the key info is present in some reasonable order. Actually all those extra bells and whistles( Diana, it looks like you copy them from the IMDB film page) are very distracting. Having the numbers , historical person, film titles and labels is enough. The people who got points had that info. Do we want to be like some government beaurocracy, endlessly sending back forms ,demanding that line 6b be filled in with a number 2 pencil?
As for postponing games, if the start time gets tweaked so that Neuro and Aussie can participate, that's a win win. The games are movre fun with strong players. Also both of them really enjoy the games. I'm glad of a start time that allows them to play.
Finally, Matt, as others have said, practice good self- care. Do what feels right for you but please don't retreat because of one sourpuss. We love you and the games are a true joy.

Nice lynch mob you've baited here. Subtle really: threaten to take away the one thing that brought everyone to this thread and threads like it, and make that threat in my name. Hmm, what could have possibly been the only foreseeable outcome? Some of you are quite lovely, like @juliekohler, neurosturgeon, and spiderwort, others of you have been reasonable in your own posts, like kijii, others seemed to make a well-intended effort to be reasonable while unintentionally misunderstanding what was posted by me, like marshamae, but who really cares what I think? And what a fantastic distraction all of this drama is. I asked a game question and was met with a dismissive, condescending post in lieu of an answer. Anyone else have that experience in these games? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? A single one of you? I've only seen game questions asked and answered, until I was the one asking the question. "Rules are rules" until they're not, and "that's life." And then later, long after that was what I was told, and long after I'd dropped it and returned to play and the QM had begun to be congenial and positive in his posts to me, and after I'd "liked" the sweet and congratulatory end-of-game posts made by spiderwort and @juliekohler, and after I was attacked and lambasted by the "battlefield"-creating insult-poster, and after I returned to bring to that poster's attention the absurdist level of hypocrisy in his insults and in his attack on me, after all of that had transpired since I was told "but rules are rules", then, right before (and in the same post as) the proclamation to suspend the presentation of the games in my name, then and only then does the QM post: "I cut Mick and Kijii (and some others) some slack because I know of their particular typing and posting situations and difficulties." imdb2.freeforums.net/post/705524 So rules aren't rules and I wasn't at all imagining the difference in their subjective application, only that's exactly the message that was repeated to me over and over in the game. "How are Mick's posts improper, Diana???" Really? Three question marks when you know exactly how they are improper because, according to you, you "cut Mick... some slack"? But it's better to be disrespectful and dismissive to me, and over and over post demands to see proof of a difference that you're pretending doesn't exist when you know that you "cut Mick... some slack"? Seriously, QM? I tried to link that last quote from the QM's post, but he has since self-deleted it, so there is only the post where I quoted it. There were other, similar posts by the QM to me which I did not quote, but he deleted them too. Since all of you read this after he deleted such posts of his to me, it's worth mentioning. But I'm sure that wouldn't have frustrated the rest of you, to be dismissed, and then to be challenged, round after round, to prove that a bias exists under the claimed premise that it doesn't, only for the bias to be openly admitted to later, but not until the same doomsday post where it is proclaimed that the games will "cease to be presented" because of me. Fantastic manipulation. Next time, how 'bout answer the woman before you announce that the end of the world is her fault? How 'bout don't play dumb to the point of sending her frustration level to a 10 when you know exactly the discrepancy to which she's referring and you know that you make (eminently understandable) allowances for that slack-cut poster? How 'bout answer her initial, totally reasonable and, as it turns out, 100% spot-on query, the way you answer everyone else's questions? How dare I, right? How dare I be observant, and correct, and rule-following and good lord, how dare I unthinkingly anticipate that I will be treated with, even approximately, the same respect as other players? You sure showed me. You showed me I should never, ever doubt the instinct to stand up for myself. You showed me what "thin-skinned" and "lack[ing] a sense of humor" can truly look like. So go for it. Cancel your games and make quadruple, no, quintuple sure that everyone knows it's because of me, a poster who named her account here after a homicidal, cutthroat harbinger of the moral apocalypse with good hair. Do that. You sure showed me.

dianachristensenLike many in this group of people, I have played these games for years and NEVER in that time have I ever seen a fight between anyone, much less with the QuizMaster. I have never seen him post an angry post, until now. He greets EACH and EVERY player to the game. He remembers who has played before and who is a total newbie. He sympathizes with those being beaten by that clock. He does it with incredible good humor. He like to use the smileys and we smile back from our side of the screen. I have never had the feeling that he is favoring anyone, ever ! He gives everyone great latitude in the postings as far as the "rules" of formatting the answering go. EVERYONE being key to that statement. I think I express the feelings of the players by saying .... We all know Matt. We all admire Matt. We all appreciate the incredible amount of time he puts into these games and the amount of joy he brings to the players and we hope that he is getting some pleasure out of the games as well. We hope that the games will continue but understand if they do not. Anyway . Time and Place and this sure ain't the place. No lynch mob. No personal attacks. Just how I see it. Small bit of advise though, Don't like the game? Don't play.
