The Blair Witch Project - 10/10 This is actually my favorite horror film and a favorite of mine in general. I love how it plays with your mind and leaves much to the imagination. I know that does not work for everyone but it does perfectly for me. I was one of those who thought it was real when I first saw it.
Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 - 9/10 Despite it being pretty much hated, it worked well for me. I liked how it took a different approach. I always thought it was very creepy and unsettling.
Blair Witch - 6/10 Well easily my least favorite of the three but its pretty enjoyable. I really dont get why Heathers brother would think shes still out in the woods though.

The first movie is beyond perfection. It was brilliant for it's time and even though it wasn't the first of it's kind...this move sparked an entire subgenre of horror movies. I saw this movie in the theaters back in 1999 and it was amazing and so creepy. Every sound stood out...the atmosphere of the movie was perfect. Chilling end. 10/10
The second movie was Hollywood capitalizing on the first's success. It's The Blair Witch Project gone Hollywood. It's full of stereotypical characters who say the dumbest things. But that said...it's one of those movies that is so bad...you can't help but watch it once in awhile just to poke fun at how ridiculous it is. Not bad for a movie that made me want to punch the faces of everyone of those ridiculous characters. 3/10
The Blair Witch- More of Hollywood capitalizing on the success of the first and returning to the subgenre of Found Footage. There's really not much to this movie. The atmosphere is all wrong...nothing subtle about it. There is one moment in the movie that gave me the creeps and that was when the girl was crawling through that hole and got stuck. That gave me chills. Still this movie is a step in the right direction of getting this franchise back on track. 4/10

THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT - An annoying piece of nonsense with a lackluster, bloviated ending, not meriting my bothering to rate it.
It's not such a stretch that the sequel was equally annoying, etc..

I think "Book of Shadows" was the best of the bunch and I'm really hoping it'll get a blu-ray release sometime.

The Blair Witch Project - 7/10 I liked it. Not a great horror movie, but quite good. The idea was highly original at the time (since then the "found footage" concept has been done to death), and it is the perfect example of how a movie can be scary when much of the horror is left to your imagination rather than showing everything. Those night scenes of the trio hearing noises and things creeping around the tent were so chilling! And again, by not actually showing what was outside the tent just made it all the more terrifying. And the last five minutes were equally terrifying and the tension was unbearable. Too bad I suffered motion sickness with all that jerky camera movement.
Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 - 4/10 I only saw this the one time when it first hit theaters. I don't remember it all that well to give it a better critique, but I remember not being too impressed with it. It certainly had its creepy moments, but overall a disappointment.
Blair Witch Haven't seen this one yet, but I intend to. Just waiting for it to hit Netflix.

Only seen the original, which worked better as drama than horror while watching it, but the real unsettling feeling came at night, hours after watching it.

The first movie was good. I enjoyed it. But I can't rewatch it mainly because of all the cussing. I guess when it came out I was just younger and that didn't bother me but now it does. I seem to remember they set a record or something with all the F bombs.

Haven't seen the newest one, but really enjoyed the 1999 original. I still remember the hype when it first came out and, like you OP, actually thought it was real at first! Finally watched it in early 2002 (when I was still relatively new to the genre) and found it suitably chilling. Like it a lot.
The sequel is fine. It's a pretty standard horror film, but there's some nice creepiness there and it's probably the best horror movie released in the year 2000 (not saying much, that).

I hate to sound like a fool and a complete ignorant moron. I saw the first in the theater as a kid. I thought it was real too. After dropping off this fat chick with acne I was dating I had to park my car and walk through a stretch of woods to get home. It was the creepiest most uneasy feeling I ever experienced in my life. And that's why I regard 'The Blair Witch Project' as one of my Top 5 Horrors of All-Time- it affected me. And still does to this day. #3 paid great homage in my eyes. #2 gets bashed - it was just 'different' - twist at the end made it feel though as if it was connected in some way

USER REVIEW : This picture had so much potential to be great. I had heard about it for years and had it on the VHS shelf forever but had not read much detail about it. I had heard glowing reviews when it first came out. It being Halloween week I finally decided to give it a whirl. The first time Heather dropped the Conversational F-bomb I did an internal uh-oh. When she "interviewed" the crazy lady she constantly interrupted her and completed her sentences... another nasty trait of the lead character. The "dialogue" which I have now read was impromptu is non-existent. Because (mostly) SHE has sworn so much when she is not upset she is left with nothing more to say so she just yells bleepables louder. I gave up after 33 minutes and only stayed that long because I did not want to be mocked by my fellow viewers .. one of whom actually said .. "That film was in pretty good condition for having been in the camera in the woods so long" ... HE thinks it really IS a documentary. This COULD have been a good scary movie but the "script" was so lacking that it just did not work for me. If you object to pointless swearing ... give this one a miss despite what the cult-fans say ! sagenesse

Original film: I pretty much hated it. I hate that style--the faux verite/faux documentary/faux found footage etc. style. But I didn't think that the story, acting, etc. were very good either. (There have been a few films I've liked despite the fact that they were done faux verite style, even though I still hate that style.) I can't say that my hatred of it wasn't increased by the ridiculous amount of hype it received at the time of its release, but I wouldn't have liked it even without the hype.
Book of Shadows - liked it quite a bit, although I don't recall very much about it now. I know I gave it at least an 8/10, though.
The new one - haven't seen it yet.

That would be disappointing if it doesn't actually make the list.

@screamingtreefrogs
You 10/10 this picture. I couldn't even be bothered finishing it because I found it to be so bad.
BIG DEAL.
BTW, never said that that user review was written by me but it's damned accurate.

@screamingtreefrogs
are you slow?
Things do slow down a tad when Win10 is doing a download.
Thanks for your concern but what an odd question to ask out of the blue.
