Pitting these two directors against each other, who's better? Both have an extensive body of work, so which style do you prefer?
*i hope I spelled Tarrantino's name right

That is damn tough. I don't even think I could make a conclusive decision.
Gibson, I guess. They are so even in overall quality.

Tarantino. Even at his lowest point he never made anything as bad as Braveheart, and Gibson's best, Apocalypto is nowhere near QT's best.

Strictly looking at the movies they directed...
Overall = QT
but i will say Mel Gibson's best movie tops QT's best movie... Braveheart(10/10) vs Pulp Fiction(9/10), ill go with Braveheart.
QT just has a higher volume of movies worth mentioning (i.e. that i score a 7/10 or higher)...
QT = 4 movies Gibson = 2 movies

I like plenty of Tarantino movies, but Gibson is a better director in my opinion. Tarantino definitely has a more unique style, a style that's relatively experimental, but that's led to a number of films that didn't work at all--Reservoir Dogs, Death Proof, his Four Rooms segment, etc. Even with some of Tarantino's work that I like overall, I like it despite the fact that his dialogue-heavy style threatens to cripple it. That's the case with The Hateful Eight, for example.

Not even close. Mel Gibson. Quentin's routine wore real thin. After Inglourious Basterds I swore I would never watch another of his films again. It was that bad.
