Because some are obsessive fanboys, some react to the obsessive fanboys creating an illusion of partisanship, and some, some don't care and just want to see the world burn

Most likely for the same reason that people care which team wins the Super Bowl. People will tend to feel a certain level of devotion to one "team" over the other, and because humans tend to be very competitive by nature, that devotion translates into wanting their "team" to win over the competition. It's silly and petty, sure, but that's the nature of competition unfortunately.

Because those people are dumb little kiddies, with no lifes. Real adults can enjoy both.

The need to belong coupled with a desire to compete. It's easy to get wrapped up in it whatever form it takes.

Because those people are dumb little kiddies, with no lifes. Real adults can enjoy both. Did you just call people kiddie then said "lifes"? I don't get this idea that liking sci-fi and comics related stuff makes you kiddie. But, at the same time, having a room full of sports memorabilia makes you an adult. It's the same thing. People have likes across all spectrums.

Honestly i think a very few actually care and the rest just like to troll and get people fired up. Back on imdb i joined a small group of trolls and trolled the Dark Knight board by claiming Twilight was the superior film. Getting a rise from fanboys was fun as hell. So i imagine its the same on this board and others.

Oh, people were doing this long before the comic book movie boom. I still remember Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fans arguing over it.

And before the 'net. I don't think it was that bad before 'net. Before the 'net, people had to talk to each other, face-to-face, and I guarantee no one was going around "LOL HEY IDIOTS MY MOVIE MADE MORE THAN YOUR STUPID STUPIDFEST YOU LAME LOSER LOLOLOLOL!" Getting literally into someone's face like that over box office would either just someone smacked or looks of pity.

Believe me. I was a regular on IMDb Prime's LOTR boards when they were still being released and the back-and-forth between Ringers and Potheads (their terminology, not mine) was quite... heated. Up to and including a pissing match over how much money both franchises would make. My stance was that it was pointless to compare the two because its three movies against seven (which eventually became eight).

It was an argument I didn't weigh much into for that exact reason. They were competing franchises of the same genre at the time, so of course the most volatile personalities in their respective fandoms clashed. Honestly, I dedicated ten times more time in arguing about the deviations Peter Jackson and company took with The Two Towers than I ever did talking about LotR vs. HP.
