Snyder is like a slightly better version of Michael Bay. He's all flare, but can do story a little better than Bay. I think when it comes to this series, he's also like Bryan Singer. They do much better when they aren't directing. They are good for ideas, but not implementing them. If they keep going like they did with Wonder Woman then the future could be a little brighter for them.

Let's keep in mind that while WW was a good film, there isn't much that is particularly great about it. Just step back and consider which scenes are truly note able and there really aren't any. The ending and villains in general are more or less considered rather bland for instance. Add on that a significant portion of it's success is recovering a small portion of the money BVS lost from the a backlog of people wanting to see a decent DC movie who didn't go back for seconds or even firsts on that one, and also people like young girls who might not typically see these types of films, and you can see it's performance is slightly inflated. So realistically it did well, plus it got a bit of a boost from some external factors. It's a great start, no doubt, but they probably want to ramp up the writing even further if they want to produce anything truly genre' defining.

Best part of Wonder Woman was up to the reveal of Ares.

Best part of Wonder Woman was up to the reveal of Ares. The reveal was weak largely because they didn't make Sir Patrick all that important up until then. There wasn't a sense that he had caused the war, or that there was any shock that it was him. All I was thinking was why he revealed himself. WW would not have won if he hadn't. She was giving up. So the reveal had no impact and was for all practical purposes a reckless move on his part.

So the reveal had no impact and was for all practical purposes a reckless move on his part. Because they needed a superpower battle. I think they shouldn't have waited until the end for his reveal. Ludendorff should have been more of a mid-boss instead of a fake end boss. Have Ares reveal himself after that then spend the rest of the movie playing cat and mouse. Have him trying to get her on his side until the big super battle at the end. Even though it was my favorite parts of the movie I think they should have made her childhood into exposition. Start her off as older Diana and said something like "Ever since you were a little girl..." But even still, the movie was good as is. And like I said, they need to get better people in charge to run the DCEU right. Batman and Superman movies will make money because they are Batman and Superman movies. The key is to make them all good to go along with that money. At this point they are the same as Transformers movies.

Perhaps, but to me the stronger move would have been to give Sir Patrick something important to do. We're supposed to think Ares had some sort of influence over everybody, and yet there's nothing in the movie showing that influence.
I like your idea of an earlier reveal, but perhaps instead have Diana defeat Ludendorff and begin her despair in the middle of the movie, then have Sir Patrick influencing the war, presumably for the good, he tries to coerce Diana into helping him and then he reveals himself causing her to realize what's happening is wrong. The way they just jammed that in at the end didn't work, I agree.
The movie as is, is ok, I would say. There's nothing really wrong with it, but it's pretty vanilla.

Snyder's most intelligent films were, what, Sucker Punch and Watchmen?

The MCU needs to be rebooted. Its continuity is ruined forever.
