Eh, it won't work. WW is a mediocre film that got artificially boosted by being preceded by failure and other political shields (female director, no prior WW movies to judge it against, etc).
Of course, Logan wasn't that good either and only got noticed because it was Jackman's swan song and because they killed Logan and Xavier in the end. For some reason this makes it "good".

The Oscars are a joke and become less relevant every year. Anything the academy does or doesn't do is completely meaningless and not worthy of comment.

I guess it all depends if at the end of the year we can name 10 movies that the Academy is more likely to nominate than Wonder Woman. Of the movies that have come out and are yet to be released, I can think of:
Dunkirk Get Out The Big Sick Detroit Mother! The Disaster Artist Darkest Hour American Made
Now I've only seen Dunkirk, Get Out, and The Big Sick. The other ones I added due to buzz, reviews, and/or the talent involved. So my guesses could be wildly inaccurate. Any other movies you guys can think of besides Wonder Woman?

It's not even close. It's not even the best comic book film of the year, nevermind best picture. It's not better than films like First Avenger and those weren't nominated, so this is just silly talk. Obviously the Russo brothers or James Gunn or Joss should be nominated for their truly landmark work ahead of this. It's almost offensive that anybody would suggest WW deservers nominations over those.

Notwithstanding better films to come out this year, I'm confident that WW will get nominations in major categories. It was a worldwide media sensation and is considered a historic milestone. Even I saw it because of the hype, the last CBM I watched in theaters was TDK Rises. WW has WW1 (which ended nearly 100 years ago), a moral tale and female empowerment. Also it is the first Superhero film that does not mess up the horrors of war theme. Hellboy while good did not takle this well, then came CaptainAmerica1 which was a travesty with Ray Gun battles and "Hail Hydra" nonsense (!). So WW is the essentially first film of this kind to get it right. The Academy should be able to appreciate it on some level. Lets see...

I thinks both WW amd Logan have a reasonable shot at getting at least an Oscar nod (nomination), as both movies are more than the sum of their parts, and artistically transcend their genre limitations. Both are (relatively speaking) daring movies in their own ways representing historic milestones for their genre.
And yea, I am not only thinking technical categories a la SSq, but best director (WW) and best movie too. Acting I am not so sure, maybe Logan, maybe even Pines as support.
Drive the awards home? Unlikely though. I think Hugh Jackman could get an acting nomination this year, but not for Logan. I don't think the Academy will nominate him for Logan but will nominate him for The Greatest Showman instead.

Nah, it just had artificial boosters to make it look like it was more than a mediocre film. That and it basically just emulated MCU's style of doing things.

Wonder Woman is the 1st CBM to show the horrors of war without turning it into a big joke, like MCU movies always do.

It just isn't full of itself and trying to be pretentious or forgetting it takes place in a Universe of magic and reality warping Gods.

Mother! is the new film written and directed by Darren Aronofsky, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domnhall Gleeson, Ed Harris, and Kristen Wiig. With the talent involved it seems like a contender. If the Academy is trying to be more diverse, they will definitely nominate Get Out. It's considered horror but it's more psychological thriller and a social commentary on racism.
