Well, it's kind of hard to measure the popularity of the two films since they are so underrated. I've just seen more users on IMDb (before the forums closed), Rotten Tomatoes, and the comment section on YouTube praise Down Under as the better of the two so it led me to believe that's what the general consensus is.

With critics the first film appears to be better thought of at Rotten Tomatoes, 83% compared to 66%. The IMDb rating appears identical.
