One death.
Is Eugene being setup for an Andrea type death? Make us hate him so much we cheer when he dies?

“Hostiles and Calamities” Episode: / *SPOILER WARNING!* Airdate: 26 February 2017: -Okay, here we go! Short and swee, just like last week! First off, it was a bit of a “bottle” episode that concentrated on just a few characters, many people have a problem with these, but I think that they are necessary for character development. Dwight realizes he’s lost Daryl, then also he loses his footing on Negan’s “Ladder Of Success”! -He even winds up in Daryls old room for a little while! Eugene makes a required visit to the Saviors and Negan even gives him the “nice” guest room, complete with pickles & spaghetti O’s! All that and a bag of chips! For awhile he starts to think that maybe he’s arrived at, “703 Easy street”! Meanwhile, Negan starts to gets suspicious of Cherry because she is missing too! But Dwight “confesses” to the dirty deed of letting Dirty Daryl escape. -So… Dwight heads out to scoop up whom he can from his old’ homestead. -But instead, he finds that nobody’s home! With recriminations in tow he heads back to Negan with a lie in his head and and a lot of guilt in his eyes. Finally, Negan tells Eugene what he wants from him and Eugene repeats the lie that he originally told Abraham. (the lie that originally bound them, one to the other...)I guess, Negan’s just a sucker for a large vocabulary and he decides that he’s met his new “Wing-man!” (Get it… “Wing-man!” LOL! -Eugene gets inspired when he actually gets to hang-out with some clean women! But… He is shocked when he discovers that these gals may have a few issues of their own to sort out with Mr. Negan. Later, Eugene wises up and discovers Negan’s true menace, when Negan gives him the 10 cent tour of the “Ironing-room” Still... Negan’s gal’s just can’t seem to convince him to a get on, “The Warrior’s Path”! So… Will Dwight ever find his true love? Will Cherry ever be found? -Will Lucille realize that Dwight is her true destiny… And, finally… Will Dr. Eugene actually get laid? -STAY TUNED! But for now… That’s all she wrote.

What'd I learn about Eugene? Given a choice the first food he wants is lobster. He'd also like some chips but not if they're made fresh.

My review of this show is like the Frosted Mini-Wheats commercial. The "adult" side of me says this was a filler episode, it did nothing to advance the main plot.
But the "kid" side of me actually enjoyed this episode! It was interesting, amusing, and entertaining to me! Eugene is a character I want to see evolve into something better. I liked Negan in this episode, (until the end). He showed his intelligence in not treating Eugene the same as Daryl. He stroked Eugene's self-esteem and ego to get what he wants.
What is with Eugene? Is he a virgin or what? He gets to spend time with 3 women and he wants to play video games? While clutching on his pickle? No metaphors there, right? I just wonder if Negan's wives were being straight, or just playing him to get the suicide pills? Was this Negan's plan? Or did they want the pills to try to kill Negan? Anyway, he did the right thing not to give them the pills. Loved the scene where he cut in line and bullshitted his way to get anything he wants, then starts taking dumb crap.
Dwight...I liked his scenes too, and they are really trying to get us to sympathize with him. I really do not understand why he framed the doctor, though. Maybe he thought there just had to be some one to be the fall guy for Negan's vengence? WHY?....Did Negan kill the doctor? Doctors are hard to come by. He could have just fried his face, or cut off his legs and he could still function as a doctor. Negan said they will just get the other Dr. Carson, (which will cause problems for Maggie). Why, in this universe there are only 2 doctors and they are both named Carson? Is there some significance in this?
I loved at the end. Negan goes into his speech, and Eugene interrupts, "I'm Negan" before Negan can finish the question! Has Eugene been seduced by the dark side? Or is he just buying time?
Finally, Dwight and Eugene are together. "I don't think we have been properly introduced, but I'm the guy who tried to bite your dick off"! I really enjoyed this episode!

I liked the episode overall but did it need to run extra to tell it's story? Not really. I wonder if this is the makers of the show thinking the story they're telling is so great that it can't be contained in an hour or is it AMC telling them to make the eps longer so they get more ad time?

The "adult" side of you is incorrect. This show's "main plots" are and have always been thinner than paper by design, which is why the real focus has always been the characters. Anything that focuses on the characters and tells a story surrounding them, which is to say every episode ever, *especially* stuff that will impact future events in some way (Carson's death, Eugene's rising up in the community, Sherry's departure and Dwight's struggle), is not filler.
Their visible disgust when he murdered Carson seems to support that they were telling the truth about that much.
They're brothers.

I agree to an extent that seeing things from Eugene's viewpoint isn't necessarily filler but did it need to be a full episode, an extended one no less, to tell/show us? That's when the "it's filler" argument comes into play. And unless you view Eugene's story as important to the show (or if it later becomes important, how necessary was an entire ep to tell it?) then one could see this ep as filler, a side story that may turn out to be mildly important later, but should people suddenly care now about his viewpoint when he hasn't been used much up until now?

No, and it didn't need an extended episode. See, in regular TV, there's this thing called "editing" that you have to do to fit in the timeslot! I really think AMC doesn't care or even encourages it. There's nothing on after except Talking Dead, then they rerun everything again all night. It gives them a chance to put more commercials in, which means they make more money.

Good episode,
I do wonder if Eugene has turned to the dark side and really fallen in with Negan, part of me says no and part of me would like it to happen. Interesting to see Rick and the gangs reaction if he did turn too.
Also liked hearing 'Easy Street' again, I like it although I know many don't
I guess any sympathy they were trying to build up with Dwight is probably gone now too

I'm not sure if Eugene has "turned", but he was certainly interesting tonight. I really dislike "centric" episodes, but I love this one. I loved seing more of Eugene, and didn't really know I wanted to. He is actually quite interesting. In the comics he loves someone, so I am not sure he will succumb to another woman's charms.

Eugene seemed to be enjoying the room and board, and the respect from Negan and wives. Plus he'd definitely like feeling safe in the Savior compound. But Negan killed the doc and that reminds Eugene of who he's dealing with. I wonder if Eugene pulls a Schindler: he makes bullets for Negan, but they don't actually work.

One big plot hole...Why is Negan worried about his walkers on the fence falling apart? Is there really a shortage of walkers that he can't replace them with new ones? Wouldn't that be easier then melting down metal?
