1) Yes. I did know. Because with X Men, Daredevil and even Elektra getting movies it was only a matter of time before these characters did too. It didn't come out of the blue. 2) I AM giving Marvel credit! I know they're smart enough not to make a movie starring Bucky. That arc will conclude in Avengers 4. You're going to have to deal with that. 1) Daredevil was barely hanging in there and Elektra killed its chances of getting a sequel. And, these films never did happen under Fox. They'd have never had the balls with everything except X-Men and Spider-man either only doing "alright" or outright flopping. 2 ) What would be so bad about a film starring Bucky? 1) Even so the genre was so popular that it was only a matter of time before we saw Cap, Iron Man and co. Maybe it was never guaranteed, but I was always confident it would happen. 2) It's one thing to bring in new characters like Panther and Strange. They're new and different. Bucky as Cap is guaranteed to make less money than Evans as Cap. And the character only exists to serve original Cap's story, thus he will die as part of original Cap's arc. I will admit that there is a slim chance for him to survive and guest star in future movies as Cap. But it's highly unlikely. If they go that route it would likely be Falcon instead.

Except, none of that is true. A feature length Captain America movie was filmed and realeased theatrically in 1990. Iron Man was in development at major studios since 1990, Thor since 1991. Literally no one, ever, said that they would "never happen" Actually, it is true. Every word. You were so intent on one-upping an MCU fan you missed the forest for the trees. First of all, that Captain America film was only ever released on video and Cable, showing that no one had faith in the property. The spectacularly poor reception of the film pretty much would have killed any aspirations for a real Captain America film had Marvel Studios not taken matters into their own hands. Hell, he didn't even get a Saturday Morning Cartoon in the 90s when pretty much every other major Marvel character was. "Iron Man was in development at major studios since 1990, Thor since 1991." Oh? Okay, so where are all those other Ironman and Thor films those other studios went into development for? Hmm? Looks like a lot of people said "they would never happen." And in fact, a lot of people HAVE said an Ironman film and a Thor film would never happen. You just want to downplay the risk factor involved in bringing these characters to the big screen because you don't want to give Marvel Studios any sort of credit. Come back when you have a serious discussion in mind. Source?

Set in New York and relatively groudned in reality. Pretty much on par for most of their lineup, both then and now. A solid Ironman or Captain America film are far more costly. 2) That would just be a waste to cut off a character with untapped potential. As far as I can tell, most of the MCU's viewership is more invested in Bucky than in Falcon. And I apologize that I became antagonistic towards you in this thread. I assumed you were dissing Marvel instead of simply thinking that Bucky taking over as Cap was a bad idea. I was wrong to assume that and I'm sorry.

10 years ago, the idea was preposterous, and the idea of an interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe was even more improbable. What the fuck are you even talking about, moron? 10 years ago Iron Man was being filmed. The MCU was already planned. Are you really that stupid? In 2007, no one was prepared for how good Iron Man would end up being. In fact, I remember a good deal of cynicism. We didn't know the MCU was already being planned. The idea was preposterous as far as the average filmgoer out of the loop was concerned. You are just not good at reading between the lines, are you? Are you really that stupid?

I just really think it's a better idea to conclude this arc in the next two movies. And Thanks for the apology. I appreciate that. Classy move. No offense taken. Just know that I am a big fan of these movies even though I sometimes criticize the things I don't like. I'm sorry too if my tone became overly condescending or douchey.

I believe I'm the one who asked for a source first. Where are these other Ironman and Thor films you mentioned? "In development" is not the same as "completed" dipshit. Seriously, are you retarded? Are all of the other Bronies in Chicago as stupid as you are, Drew? Exactly. They abandoned them, and they only got made when Marvel Studios, itself, stepped in. Seriously, are you retarded?

We didn't know the MCU was already being planned. Yes, we did, you Brony loving faggot. No, we didn't. At least, not most of us. Yes, it was confirmed as early as 2006, but most of people did not know that Ironman would be the first film in a series of interconnected films. Most of us found out when Fury when first appeared. It was a huge surprise to the majority back in 2008. Still in grade school, I see. Oh, and by the way, "Drew" is a character on a blog I once wrote.

See my thread about reboot or Recast. This could all happen in 10 years if they replace the actor(s) but keep the character(s). For a long time I've been curious if they would give a character some time off if an actor was done, and then 5 years later, all of a sudden we get a new #!#$@#$ series with a new actor. I would actually be very interested in seeing what happens if they did that with an Iron Man or Black Widow.
It poses an interesting question as to what they will do if they don't go that route. I don't think they have any intention to stop making movies, and at some point you run out of viable A list characters, even though they still have plenty to go for another 10 years easily.
But what happens in that 3rd decade when Cumberbatch is getting done and Captain Marvel has run her trilogy, and Bosman is finished.
If the series is still viable after 20 years and 50 or more films (holy shit the complete MCU might end up being 50 fucking films, I just did a jig) then it is a very interesting question about what they do.
The best thing about this is we talk about the next 10,20, 50 years and although improbable it still is plausible. I would like them to go that route and reinvent how you do things, again.

I clearly remember most of the crowd I was with being surprised by that reveal. So to just say "We all knew" just because there was an article about it floating around online is frankly false. The internet was a different beast in 2006 and virtually no one knew the MCU was coming.

The funny thing is, the MCU is constantly a test, right? Can Thor and Cap movies work, can a huge cast work, can unknown characters work, and on and on.
Can a recast in the MCU work? Now that's a tricky one because you get one chance to cast a new actor and even they're great it's so hard to say if it will be accepted, especially into the same continuity. And does it matter which character it is. I am very curious if they ever attempt this with a main character who has been around for more than 1 film.

I wish we got a Captain America 3. Don't get me wrong I really like Civil War but it was an Avengers movie with Cap as the lead. Cap's mythos sort of got thrown out the window. No Red Skull return, a phony Zemo, a shoe horned resolution to Hydrain AoU, a glorified cameo for Crossbones, no real role for Agent 13, Tony becomes the protagonist in act three... Agreed. I even made a rant on it back on IMDB message boards. As a Captain America fan I was upset about his 3rd film being used as a place holder for Civil War.
