Wait. First off, from where are we getting "straight people assume that gay men are proud to be men"?
Straight people have this idea that transgenders are the only people who've got some confusion about their gender and/or their biological sex. If straight people happen to see a bearded muscular gay guy, they'll just think, "He's just as masculine as straight guys are". In reality though, many gay men (and not just the effeminate ones) have an apparent fascination with wanting to emulate the female sex in some way. I would say that gay men in general are like a third gender or a third sex because they display traits that are neither fully masculine nor fully feminine but somewhere in between the two. And when I say "traits" I'm not referring to things like hand gestures or mannerisms. I'm talking about other aspects of themselves.
Straight people wouldn't typically know this because they are not all that familiar with the gay culture and the nature of homosexuality.
If a gay man is proud to be a man, what would be the appeal of looking like this:

Again, what is the source of this information? It's not good enough that you're just claiming it. I want to see some evidence of people thinking this.

Being a lesbian I can't give the straight perspective, but realistically people of any sexuality can defy both gender norms as well as misplaced stereotypes. Also, as others have said, I'm not even sure where you're getting your original inclination in the first place.
"If life is getting you down and you're feeling angry, free your mind and come dance with me!"

You certainly don't appear to familiar with much at all.
You are compartmentalizing ALL gay men into the same mold. What is your problem? You are making brash, unfounded and ignorant assumptions? Where do bisexual men fit into this confounded concoction of yours?
What's the matter with you? I said, "Howdy!" Is you hard of hearing?
maybe because being considered female or having female traits is considered socially undignified, just general misogyny really.
I think the misogyny is all in your mind. The OP is claiming that gay men are undignified, but you are turning it around to make it about women, when neither of you know what you are talking about.
