"If Stephen King is the Rolling Stones, Dean Koontz is the Beatles."
UGH.
Koontz is bland and workmanlike. MAYBE that translates to early Beatles pop, but there's no comparison between the quality of their later work and his potboiler prose.

Not a good emotion for a horror writer

I have tried three Koontz novels and stopped about 100 pages into each one. I agree. Koontz is bland and uninteresting.

Koontz has an odd way of making his books seem like they will be entertaining. He can even make a story compelling for half or occasionally 3/4th of a novel but then............ The guy can't write a decent finale to a book.
Comparing him to The Beatles is amazingly inaccurate. More like Coldplay or Herman's Hermits.
