The title says it all. I think all three of the Lord of the Rings movies are amazing, but The Return of the King gets my vote.

Honestly, for me, it's a dead tie between "Felowship" and "Return". I felt "Towers" just got away from the books WAY too much. And yes, I know the number of deviations in the other two are TECHNICALLY higher, but the changes made to "Towers" are WAY more drastic.

The original three are all great but it has to be Fellowship. There's plenty of gripes with the other ones that just aren't present in Fellowship.

@no Name: Guessing you weren't a fan of what they did with Faramir and Denethur's character, either.

"Fellowship" with "ROTK" a very close second.

Fellowship was the best for me. It made me want to see the other two movies. I've probably seen Fellowship more than any other movie, so far.

All the LOTR flicks were worthy of a 10/10 in my opinion, but...Fellowship was the one which set the bar. I think I'd have to go with that one as my favorite.

Return of the King, although it's a close one between that and Fellowship.

Fellowship. i felt Jackson got a little too carried away with all of the others whereas Fellowship feels very rooted in reality and feels real with a beautifully crafted story line.

You think have Two Towers and Return not being as rooted in reality is a bad thing? You ARE aware of what genre these films are, right?

I felt Two Towers was the best easily, with the most complete story, followed by Fellowship which was brilliant. I don't think Return of the King comes close, too much sloppy CGI and a few weird cackling orcs during some battles. There is one that screams Ahhhhhhhhhhh that makes me want to laugh every time. It was still good, Shelob was excellent, and I actually love all the endings, but the first two are perfection if you ask me.

FOTR.
Each film digressed in quality afterwards.

I really think Fellowship and Two Towers are clearly superior to Return. Return got the Oscar as an overall achievement for the entire series and not because it specifically was necessarily the best film of the three, but regardless, I think some of the writing and effects are clearly not as good in the last film. Moreover, I think the story arc in Towers is much more satisfying and complete. The trio riding up on a downtrodden city, only to inspire them to rise up and fight a crushing evil. The ultimate charge down the hill with Aeomer screaming "to the king!!!" is one of greatest triumphic scenes ever in cinema.

ROTK, but only the Extended cut. For the theatrical cuts ROTK is my least favorite by far. Anyway, I only watch the extended cuts now, so..
