I feel like this thread was already made, but I can't find it. If I'm just stupid and this is a repeat thread, I'm sorry.
Anyway, I think Batman (1989) is better by a fraction of a hair. They are almost dead even in my opinion.

Superman, because its actually about the hero of its title.

Superman. It really is about him, while Batman is at least half about the Joker. Also, Superman is a better all round comics movie in that it is epic in scope and shows him doing just about every super thing they can think of (except fighting a big robot which I think is the one minus).
It also had an international all star cast which is unheard of--neither Jaws nor Star Wars had such a big budget pedigree.

Batman '89. I agree it's real close for me too though. I've a problem with Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor who I felt perfectly cast but I never took seriously.

Superman. It really is about him, while Batman is at least half about the Joker. And the other half is about Vicky Vale. Zing.

Superman is my #28 all time.
Batman probably wouldn't make my top 600.

Superman, mainly because of Chris Reeve's fantastic performance.

Batman.
Superman was just too campy, Lex Luthor and the other bumbling villains ruined it.

Superman. As others have said, the title hero and his hero's journey is the central point of the narrative than as seen in Batman. Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder had excellent chemistry with each other. I love the production values in both films, but in Superman, it feels epic and larger-than-life. Yeah, Lex Luthor should have carried more menace, although I did like Gene Hackman in the role.

Batman. Both are excellent movies. But Superman loses the final tally because of that ridiculous turn back time scene.

Superman.
I think Burton likes to go too far into the weird. And not in a good way. Like, why would Bruce wake up in the middle of the night to hang upside down from a rack? Yeah, he's Batman, but that's something a human bat hybrid would do. Not Batman.

It was for some "he's comfortable hanging upside down when he sleeps" type thing. I thought it was for a core exercise, not sleeping. Maybe I'm not remembering it correctly?

I'd probably have to go with Superman: The Movie. It does a better job of embodying its title character than Batman did.

I'm going to have to go with Superman as well (though I do like Batman). It's one of my favorite pictures of them all.

"Superman". The opening credits alone are awesome and special.

Maybe I'm not remembering it correctly? He slept with Vicky Vale then she woke up and saw him hanging upside down.
