I was watching the IMCForums aka GOTBoard IMDb replacement, deciding whether it was worth joining. When I tried to register today, I got a message saying that registration has been disabled for the site.
Anybody here also a member there? What's going on? Were they having problems from too many trolls?

All those IMDb refugees flooding into an established community, not respecting or understand the culture. Not going to work anywhere is it?

Admins on both sides have decided to merge.
There's no point having two different sites competing against each other when we both want the same thing.

Dont want to be rude but i have the impression that moviechat.org seems to be the best replacement so far. They have archived the old threads and the rude, anarchic tone gives me the right imdb board vibe.

With several boards competing against each other they might all go down in flames. If we could get most of the people that posted on the IMDB boards to agree on one site we would have plenty of people posting. But how can we get most of them to agree?

The Admins have to force it, close the forum down and link to the successor. Unfortunately many of them have invested a lot of time into it so they won't give it up. The best unofficial successor by far is IMD Forums but it just doesn't have the userbase.

Apart from the userbase it is, it uses a paid forum software, it's hosted by the guy who runs it rather than a free site. The reason people didn't flock to it was that too many people were already registered here or the Game of Thrones board.

This is the only alt with a worthwhile user count so this one should be the priority.

The reason people didn't flock to it was that too many people were already registered here or the Game of Thrones board. No one cares how a quasi-dead forum is hosted, the defining factor is the amount of activity and what kind of atmosphere the community has. IMDForums is neither very active, big site or the kind of small but cozy community which I'd like to join. Another thing is that their forum design is ugly. Plain and simple. That's my another major reason for me not to join. Weird use colors that don't go well together, ugly font type, ugly main page with useless information taking 25% of space. It just doesn't look good to me. If people over there like the design, great. I prefer this site's design in every way.

Moviechat seems to be dying a death, very few new topics - just the same old ones recycled over and over IMDF doesn't seem to have any activity at all

So far I think you are right. But it still needs more people to join this site. How to get them here I have no idea. Any ideas?

There's no denying that IMDB v2.0 has ten times the users IMDForums have. I am a member over there as well. Their Science Fiction board is reasonably active and the only reason I still visit that site. The rest of IMDF is pretty much dead.

The irony of this post is that those of us who are not already members there cannot read the linked discussion. (And we cannot become new members because they aren't allowing new registrations.)

Not particularly because the people who would sign up are going to be movie board loving type. You're only going to find that type of people on other movie boards and they aren't going to leave their board for this one. Apparently there are Facebook groups and Reddit groups that were made for IMDB refugees. Not familiar with those sites really but they could be told I suppose. Maybe go on YouTube and look up videos about IMDB closing down and leave a comment about this place for people to see.

Will the war between the GOT board and the former IMDB Walking Dead posters continue over here when we merge?

I wish there were more traffic there. No discussions yet on La La Land, Manchester By the Sea, Hacksaw Ridge.
