I cant stand when movies try to make hacking look badass.... I mean this is still breaking the law nothing glamorous here. Mr robot walks a fine line.

I really enjoyed the article. Thanks for sharing. The examples (culprits) mentioned are so true and hilarious!! I remember when I saw "GoldenEye" and the guy types "Send Spike" and it's done!!! LOL!! In many movies when they show the computer screen, the hacker, instead of typing complex codes, is typing instructions like "hack John's computer now". And anyone else notice how hackers in movies rarely if ever use the mouse. I guess banging keys on the keyboard makes for more dramatic visuals than mouse clicks.

I agree, but is it not the case that most "action" movies, especially, but not only, American ones glamorize one or more forms of law-breaking, whether murder, assault, espionage, financial misconduct, kidnapping, drug-taking, DUI, or merely exceeding the speed limit?

I dont think those movies havent not been criticized at all.

Hilarious! Especially the bit about the fact that no movie computer has a mouse.
The only trope they left out that I can think of is the hacker's eyes lighting up and saying "we're in!"
The dead-eyed, focused gaze into the screen is also a favorite. It has always reminded me of the guys staring through the peepholes in "Porky's."

Hackers was awesome. Let's rollerblade and hack the planet! Geez was a dumb film. I liked Johnny Lee Miller and LOVED Angelina Jolie so I put up with it though.
Zero Cool Crash Override Acid Burn Cereal Killer
It's embarrassing that I remember their "online" names.
The soundtrack was actually pretty good. Prodigy and some other electronic bands.

Passwords are ususaly something that relates to something in the past, a daughers name, a former love, and so on, and they are always created by people who is written in the scripts as intelligent with IQ's over the top. In movies and TV!! Making persons with intelligence heroes is not totally wrong, it's the way they do it that comes out wrong. When I create passwords for myself, I use a daily newspaper, throw up a page randomnly, throw a dice to decide what line first letter to use, starting from, the line the dice decides, throw in a few numbers here and there. On the other hand I don't have any secret files.
