Yes, but that is what happens when you are trying to come up with a good Trump zinger rather than do your job.

Didn't he read the name? I'm pretty sure he read it. No, He handed the card to Faye Dunaway, seeing that there was something wrong with it, and She just read off what she saw without actually paying attention to what it said.

Actor trying to be writer...leave the creative side to the creators. It's not really his fault if they gave him the wrong card. But, I smell a rat here. The whole thing may have been a prank, done on purpose.

"You guys really won. It's not a joke" That was the brightest guy they could send out to do that?

"You guys really won. It's not a joke" That was the brightest guy they could send out to do that? He was one of the producers for LaLa Land. I'm sure he was kind of aggravated after just giving his speech to be told he actually didnt win.

I must agree re Beatty dropping the ball. Apparently - as you've prob all heard by now - the card was the (reserve, since there are two copies of each card) one for Emma Stone. Beatty has been around long enough to see any number of Best Picture cards and he MUST know that that was a wrong card; no BP card has the name of an actor/actress on it. He should have stepped aside and called one of the Price Cooper people over, that's precisely why they stand on the sidelines through the whole show! Cripes!

It wasn't his fault, it likely said "Emma Stone- La La Land" and not the category, and they just rolled with it on the off-chance she was a producer.

Proof that movie stars can't think on their feet; they can only repeat things off a script. Beatty was totally befuddled and just pushed the card off onto Dunaway, who recited the first thing she noticed on the card ("La La" is easy to read, even for semi-literate Hollywood stars).
Maybe it was the ghost of Florence Foster Jenkins getting revenge for her portrayal, and for what an earlier Beatty-type did to her.

It wasnt his fault. He knew he was given the wrong enveloppe and turn to Faye Dunnaway. She didnt seems to notice any problem.

Beatty knew something was wrong and was only showing Faye the card to get her to see something was wrong too.
Instead, SHE blurted out the first movie title she saw instead of taking a proper look at the card. She's the one who made the announcement in haste.
It's BOTH their faults for not speaking up and saying there seems to be a problem.
But as someone mentioned above, perhaps they were entertaining the possibility that Emma Stone was the producer -- who knows.

Pricewaterhousecoopers is ultimately responsible for the gaffe. They are responsible for making sure the results are rock solid and properly handled.

"You guys really won. It's not a joke" That was the brightest guy they could send out to do that? What do you expect? It's Hollywood... To be fair, he cut to the chase and did what needed to be done.

Assuming that the "they" people are referring to are the show's director/producers, they didn't send ANYONE out to correct the error! The accountants were charged with memorizing the names of all winners, in the event of just such a mistake, and with stepping forward to straighten things out, ASAP.

I honestly think way too much was made out of all of this. In fact, it made for good "live" television. No one got hurt, maybe a little embarrassed, but not hurt. They will make the necessary corrections in procedure for next year. But this year's show will make it into the history books....so that's a good thing.
