So wich show was better Downton Abbey ( 2010-2015 ) or Upstairs, Downstairs ( 1971-1975 )
I say Upstairs, Downstairs. To me Downton Abbey is pretty much a bad copy of Upstairs, Downstairs. Not that i think Downton Abbey was a bad show but Upstairs, Downstairs is in my opinion almost a perfect show. The quality is always high while the quality of Downton Abbey is never as high as Upstairs, Downstairs and the worst of Upstairs, Downstairs is still better than the best of Downton Abbey.
At least that is what i think feel free to tell me how wrong i am

upstairs Downstairs. better acting, more realistic character on the whole. Gordon. Jackson as Hudson was a joy, and Angela abaddely as mrs bridges. Though thomas and sarah were a bit over the top. I liked the first series of Downton Abbey, especially the acerbic exchanges between maggie smith and penelope Wilton, but it all got too far fetched after that.

Downton Abbey is a 100 times better than Upstairs/Downstairs. Better writing, better acting, better storylines, better characters, better costumes, better everything.

Upstairs Downstairs.
While I enjoyed Downton, it was pretty much just a really pretty soap opera.

Upstairs / Downstairs NONE of the characters were annoying or whiney ! That cannot be said of DA. I agree but they could be unlikeable at times the characters on Upstairs, Downstairs. But still not as unlikeable as some of the DA characters. |

I have U/D on disk and enjoy still watching it, Feologild Oakes .
DA was a one time watch and it was a struggle to finish it. The servant stories and characters were so much more .... MORE... than the upstairs snobs and mopey heads. BEST thing, for me at least, about DA were the fantastic costumes and authentic look of the hairdos and furnishings. AND Maggie Smith ! I would watch that woman sitting and reading aloud from a phone directory. |

It's a pity you didn't put this in the Tv Polls section , Feologild !
Downtown Abbey has a modern serial feel for me , where there are lots of episodic
dramatic changes . 2010- 2015 6 Seasons
Upstairs Downstairs - original run 1971-1975 5 Seasons
- 2nd run 2010-2012 2 Seasons
The original run came across as dull , but on consideration
is a deliberately slow but subtle development .
The 2nd Run of Upstairs Downstairs was more modern , but a
very decent sequel to the original , answering the questions
left by the first series .
Overall , I thought Upstairs Downstairs although appearing
to be a dull series , in the long run was a much better
developed series , though I can see why many viewers would
prefer Downton Abbey . But for me , Downton Abbey was too
shallow .

In 1971 it was not "dull".
The series was watched with anticipation.
There was not the hoopla of the internat then to built it into the media circus that DA became.
