here's the official rankings of the Pred/Alien Franchise 1) Predator 2) Alien 3) Predators 4) Alien 3 5) AVP 6) AvP: R 7) Aliens 8) Alien: Resurrection 9) Predator II Putting AVP and the abominable AVP: Requiem above just about anything, let alone the terrific action/sci-fi Aliens, is a crime. One cannot even consider themselves fans of film, much less the series, if they hold this to be true. And Alien goes over Predator, but Predator can safely be in the top 3 behind Aliens. I beg to differ. Aliens gets so much over the top praise for being a modern day masterpiece - many people hold it above the original. I just don't get it. Good flick. Yes. I look at it like Terminator 2 - for it's time it was great - giant budget - willing to bet it did great at the box office. Years later - is it really that 'great'? I don't see it. Good flick. Now if anybody gives A3 a chance - IMO - dark and gritty where there's a sense of 'Doom' all throughout the movie. AvP I love for the same reason I love Freddy Vs. Jason - you have 2 iconic characters coming together and clashing on screen. Of course the fanboys hated it and whined - picking apart everything in the movie like the Star Trek dorks they are - it was 'fun' - not mean to be Gone With the Wind. Requieum? It was like the writers and directors were like - OK - you're going to complain the first movie didn't have enough 'gore'? - Here you go! One of the first scenes is a kid hunting with his Dad and they both get the axe by a facehugger. It was great. Gotta take those movies (same as FvJ) as just popcorn flick fun. I pop in A3, AvP, AvP:R more often than Aliens for a rewatch.

Top three:
ALIEN -- not just a great sci-fi horror film, simply a great film. The first hour (where we really don't know much, much like the crew) is so creepy and captivating.
ALIENS -- when this was released sequels weren't supposed to be so different from the original. Let's face it, the "greatest sequel of them all" GODFATHER II, was really just GODFATHER I. ALIENS sure wasn't ALIEN.
PREDATOR -- yeah, the macho bullshit is way over the top (and, frankly, quite gay. Up there with that volleyball scene in TOP GUN), but the movie is a great ride. Moves along briskly, and I love the way it unfolds (like the first ALIEN film)...we really don't know what we are up against, we slowly learn about the creature.

One could make the argument that none of the other films are even worth watching. Predator 2 had it's moment but was otherwise meh. The rest are instantly forgettable.

One could make the argument that none of the other films are even worth watching. So true, so true. Just because there is a franchise of these films does not mean they should be considered connected to the cream of the crop. My God, ALIEN RESSURECTION is horrible. But just because it is a sequel to two legitimately great films, we have to somehow give it respect and credence? I saw some of those other films, those AVP films...some I simply turned off after twenty minutes or so.
