Robin Williams, I guess. Here was a guy who brought laughter to millions of others, yet he was destroyed by the darkness and sadness inside himself.

Celebrity deaths does not upset me. I only get upset over things that matter like my own family and friends dying. Not over some peoplei have seen on tv or heard singing.
Now please tell me what a cold hearted asshole i am.

I wouldn't say REALLY upset, but certainly affected more than most....Bowie, John Peel, John Hughes, Lil' Chris, Peter Cook
Lesser known, but they were from bands that I followed a lot on the live circuit - Wiz (Mega City Four), Rob Jones & Martin Gilks (The Wonder Stuff)

As a child: Walt Disney As an adult: Princess Diana I can't begin to imagine what it would be like being a child finding out Walt Disney had died. It'd be like someone telling you that Santa Claus was dead.

Lucille Ball, Marvin Gay, John Lennon, Princess Diana, Carrie Fisher. With Michael Jackson, it was a WTF moment, but then sad once I realized it wasn't a hoax.

Yes, Karen Carpenter was very sad indeed. And John Lennon's death was a shock, as was Robin Williams. John Belushi's demise also shocked me at the time, but not afterward (when I read "Wired").
Jayne Mansfield was shocking, given the circumstances, I was in the 8th grade when that happened.
What's particularly sad about Karen, Belushi, and Williams is that they'd accomplished so much in their relatively short creative lives. Richer than sin, admired and loved by millions. Yet, they were apparently quite miserable and pretty much destroyed themselves.
