Goodfellas. Taxi Driver. Raging Bull.
Shutter Island & The Age of Innocence would make my top 5 though.

I went for Taxi Driver (1976), Goodfellas (1990) and Casino (1995). Will be seeing The Departed (2006) for the first time shortly.

I voted for GoodFellas, Casino, and Taxi Driver. I would have replaced Casino with The Departed but since it's not only a remake of a better film but also lifts many scenes directly from Infernal Affairs I could not in good conscience vote for it.

Steets Aviator Gangs
Mean Streets is the only one in my top 50 all time, #40.
Kundun would make a run at my 4th fav.

What is it about Catholics and torture porn? The graphic violence in Silence wasn't as unrelenting as Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ, but Silence also lacked that movie's pace, and its surprising, even striking, cinematic creativity with a well-known story. It was at least half an hour too long, and I am at a loss to explain its high rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic etc, except by noting that most of the critics sampled come from the good ole USA, home to some pretty sadomasochistic approaches to religion.

I'm shocked that Goodfellas didn't win.
