Gareth Bale starts against Mourinho's dogs of war. Ronaldo on the bench... interesting. No place in the starting line up for Marcus Rashford either, could be a frustrating season for him under Mourinho?

170M+ quid worth and they couldn't put those 2 chances away Lukaku at times can't hit a barn door. You'll probably hear the term "he's a confidence player" bandied about at times, I think that is code for "he's a bottler". If he gets a few goals early on he'll probably be okay, if he doesn't I feel the pressure might crush him. Worst club to be at when you are struggling, everything you do is put under the microscope.

At West Brom and Everton where the pressure's off , he'll tuck them away with ease.
At United, it's either gonna be a disaster or (fingers crossed) he's matured enough to handle it.

Congratulations Real Madrid, with winning the Super Cup (yet again) of 2017. As a United fan, I really hate to admit it but last nights 2-1 loss was very flattering, as it could easily have been far worse. But then again, there is no shame in losing against this Madrid team, as they are the best team in the world at the moment, while Manchester United is, well maybe somewhere in between 15th place and 20th place.
Anyway, it did start up rather bad, as Madrid should have been one goal ahead after Gareth Bale wasted a big chance after only a couple of minutes into the game, then soon followed the well deserved lead (1-0) goal. A beautiful goal too, and for a period of 10-12 minutes, Real completely dominated United and it looked like men playing against little boys and if it had not been for the crossbar or David De Gea, it could easily been both 2 and 3-0 to Madrid before half time.
Sure the extreme heat might have something to do with the poor opening by United, but still that is no excuse as there were two teams out there playing, not just one, even if if looked like that for a big part of the first 45 minutes. In the second half, things went from bad to worse as Madrid easily scored again and United looked very far away of being a team that would be able to fight for both Premier League glory and also do well in Europe the upcoming season. But Mourinho then made some changes, in with Rashford and Fellaini and suddenly they looked much more sharper and less predictable, which seemed to take Madrid by surprise and if Rashford had taken better care of his fantastic chance, it could have been 2-2.
All in all, a entertaining match where I never went in thinking that Manchester United is any close at the moment of the level of football that Real Madrid has been playing for several years now. They are a well oiled winning machine, having just recently secured another Champions League trophy. The third time in 4 years after humiliating Juventus 4-1 in the final, while the other team is still in the re-building business of trying to get back into shape and hopefully stand a better chance against the top teams in England, and maybe in a few years of time, also in Europe.

I suppose the one consolation for Man United is they probably wont play a better team this season. Although United did make (and miss) a couple of really good chances in the 2nd half, that might have been more to do with it still being pre-season and Madrid perhaps tiring a little, so things opened up slightly. But yes, there did seem to be a massive gulf in class out there, especially in the 1st half. Anyway, get yourself signed up to the prediction league, your forum needs you!
