I am Bill Murray's biggest fan, but Jesus, what was he thinking?
Now, to be fair, after Murray meets Matthew McConaughey, the film gets better. I didn't laugh out loud until they were riding in his rig together.
Honestly, I think a damn monkey would have been a better side kick, even Hanks made a dog work in Turner and Hooch. There just wasn't enough for Murray and the Elephant to do.
Its another Planes, Trains, and Automobiles trope comedy. Man seeking a destination, obstacles get in the way. Quick Change worked very well, this needed something else. Maybe a female lead with him, or a goofball guy sidekick. Just Murray alone with the elephant didn't have much of a plot.
