"Ada is actually dumber than Laura Louise..." "I SHUDDER TO THINK OF IT!!!!" -- Ha! Ha! By the way, that is a really fun snapshot from the movie. However, I recall no such scene. So was that filmed and then got cut later? Because that would have been a hoot to have a scene where Ida and Vincent go to church and listen to Wolfman Jack preaching gospel. Yes, Ada is dumber than Laura Louise. She couldn't even tube without Ida having to rescue her from drowning, even with a tube around her flab.
That scene would have ended up on the cutting room floor, but it does look like a hoot. Good for promotional purposed though.
The film apparently cost around $3mill to make, which was quite pricey for a horror film at the time in 1980, compared to something like FT13th which only cost half a mill and made around 40mill in the US alone. Poor Motel Hell only doubled its cost to about 6mill worldwide. They must've had high hopes for it and I prefer it to Friday.
Oh, I can't even compare the two. I do very much like the first Friday, but Motel Hell is special. It has Nancy, it has Rory, it has way cool sets and cinematography, it has a good, spooky score and it has humor that is genuinely, LOL funny. In some ways, I prefer Motel Hell to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which is a masterpiece.

She wasn't very clever full stop. Had absolutely no self-awareness and would play the blame game when called out, because she couldn't admit that she was a cretin. I guess it must've been tough living in her shoes, but my gosh, imagine living in her head. I still think Ada was one of our few examples of a poster with actual, severe mental issues and deserved more pity than mockery. It's why I stopped engaging her. People would set her off and goad her into progressively more wacked out statements, and all I could think was the kids in my elementary school who'd taunt one of our special ed students into a rage on a daily basis. I'm not judging: I could be wrong. But she exhibited too many classic signs of mental disorder for me to remain comfortable feeding her. She was gaslighted by the evil pricks on this board. I still have her email address. I think I'm going to write to her. Whether or not she comes back I hope she's okay.

She just wasn't smart and wouldn't listen to reason. No one was trying to make her crazy, she already was. I must respectfully disagree, sir, in my most respectful Southern gentlemanly sort of way. If she went crazy, she was helped.

She didn't want any help and wouldn't acknowledge her own prejudices and lack of self-awareness? I still don't remember any Toasted Cheese on the old board, but I remember someone named Bucky.

Making a claim, then pretending she never made a claim, it was all in someone's head? Classic example.

Yeah. After midnight HER time. The genius teacher with superior education to everyone did not understand how timezones worked.
To be fair: she was an ESOL part time reliever. Something college kids do for a few bucks in the summer. Not a "teacher" in most senses of the word. Unless you count the gym coach subbing for the math teacher during a sick day a "teacher". It was incredible just how much she deluded herself into thinking she was a genuine teacher. I may not have been a straight-A student, but I know I can write reasonably well, I like to think my level of literacy shines through on the few occasions I start waxing poetic. But there is no way she passed any kind of English test on the same level I have, her "stories" betrayed the fact she didn't read a hell of a lot of books, and if she did, she certainly didn't learn the basics on how to write one. She couldn't understand colloquialisms, sneered at differences in how certain nationalities expressed them, which is definitely not what a teacher would be doing. Her, habit, of, commas, placed, at, wrong, moments, punctuation fail. Seeing her berate others for spelling and grammar was just so amusing when it was obvious she could barely communicate in the same language. I'm convinced she passed some literacy course she was made to do as part of a government employment programme (the same way I got my computer qualifications, and media studies one), but fooled herself into thinking this meant she was an absolute genius, a literary prodigal daughter. I'm convinced because, yes, she could spell real well. But that was the highest her abilities went - her writing was often clumsy, blunt, unimaginative, and the idea that some words had more than one meaning, or there was more than one way of writing or expressing something, just didn't happen with her.

She did gaslight herself. For example I remember one thread she started herself to brag about how much she knew about wine. She volunteered all the information herself - no-one asked for it - and it was all garbage. The sort of stuff you might get if you'd seen someone talking about wine on TV but never actually drank any of it yourself. But she insisted that she had dined in the finest restaurants and that their sommeliers were wowed by her expertise.
And she just piling the lies on top of lies rather than just shutting up about it. And every lie just exposed more of her ignorance.

I do believe this is a Shatto duh Fronch 1752!
And this is a Shatto duh Blancmange 1856!
And what is this brand? Oh yes. I am familiar with this vintage Shatto duh Yurin de Coq 2019 5 minutes ago, the chef's own speciality! I am blessed! The yellow is truly a different shade of wine that I am used to, in my sophisticated lifestyle of trolling internet boards and inciting lynch mobs.
