News alert for you: Tim Howard was named PFA Best XI in 2004. One of the greats:

I'd have Aguero a lot higher, Torres a lot lower.
You have Denis Irwin in there? Interesting. No Roy Keane though? Oversight?
I'd find it difficult to put GKs in there, just too difficult to compare them with normal players. They're a different species. I think Cech was better than Van Der Sar anyway.
I'd probably have Ginola in there somewhere.
I don't think I could have Ronaldo #1, he was only really consistent for a couple of years in the PL.
Could argue Di Canio, Essien, Toure, Klinsmann (maybe), Hazard, Robben (maybe), Alonso (maybe) deserve a spot more than some of those guys.
Well I'd be umming and erring about it all day.

Aguero's a better player but Torres just exploded on the Premier League and was so exciting to watch - it didn't last long though. Yeah, I forgot about Keane but then again, Irwin was one of the most consistent players I've ever seen. Ginola was a bit of a dandy, never really doing it when it mattered. Essen is a good shout (and also reminds me of Makele who was the boss in that role) but honestly, I'm not all that convinced by Hazard. He keeps threatening to step up to that next level but never really does. Robben didn't get really good until he left.

Well, if I was to pick my best foreign players to have ever played in the PL, and the best foreign PL players, the two lists would be different. Ronaldo is undoubtedly the best player to have ever played in the PL, while Henry is the best PL player. Best foreign PL players would be something like:
Henry Aguero Bergkamp Cantona Ronaldo
As a top 5 at least.
And yeah Torres shouldn't be so high up. I'd sooner have David Silva in a top 25 than Torres.

You could make an argument for him being 10th or 1st. He was the stand out player for the first 5 years along with Shearer. The best player to watch for my money (for more reason than one) during that era. He was definitely an enigma which earns him brownie points for nostalgia But the thing that goes against him is that was also the weakest Premier League era, in terms of defence, tactics, players, technical ability, organisation, fitness. I always wonder whether he would have cut it in Serie A at that time when the league was a juggernaut. Hard to say, so many great players failed over there, but I think half of it is in your head, and Cantona had the confidence. But if Cantona thought he got rough treatment from defenders in England and France, well the Italian defenders would have been giving him kittens. They would have targeted him week after week, would have been relentless, he'd still be waking up in cold sweats thinking about. My gut feeling is he would have still done well for a while, but then exploded with rage and gone off the rails... so no different to England then! Would have been great to see him in Serie A, that was the litmus test, but how well could he have done against the best? I guess we'll never know...

Surprised by no Keane. Without him you win half of your PL's and Cups and that goes for CL's too, who he dragged you to in 99
