I went out for a long walk a few hours ago in the cold and I decided to turn back home after less than an hour as my hands were freezing. Should’ve worn gloves.

I had no idea that it could get that cold where you are; I don't know that much about Down Under. Yikes! Stay warm! In rural Missouri, it is 78 F, and sunny, but this is an unusually cool June. Usually by now we are in the upper 80's. This cool spell has been a real treat - more time outside in my woodland niche.

It got down to -1 C, or 30 F last night, which was an actual record for the coldest temperature on that day of the year where I live. However, it gets colder than that around here from time to time. And over east, in the snow fields, I'd hate to think how chilly it gets. Of course, mum told me that when she was growing up in the Netherlands, it got down to around -30 C more than once... Show off!

After the war ended, her family came to the USA. Her parents were just a hoot, and despite years of living in New Jersey, they never picked up that accent. They spoke English with a Dutch accent. Her mother told some very interesting stories in that accent, and embarrassed her daughter more than once, at company parties.

Her mother told some very interesting stories in that accent, and embarrassed her daughter more than once, at company parties. Not entirely sure, but it probably had something to do with my aunt. She was the oldest child, mum was the youngest, but they were the closest, despite an 18 year gap. After WWII, my aunt and her husband decided to come out to Australia, because their son suffered from asthma in the cold European climate. It obviously worked, because the son spent his entire adult working life as a professional fire fighter. Mum came out to Australia in around 1960, with her first husband. She was already an enrolled nurse and simply continued working. Then she met Dad... In those early days, when thy went out for drinking and dancing, they avoided the Dutch clubs and went to the German one. That was the best place in town to party. From what I was told by my aunt, the Germans had the best music, the best dancing and the best booze.

I live in New Orleans. As always, we are in the dog days of summer. Its hot as hell down here. 90s during the day, 80s at night. Humidity levels between 100 and 50. Heat index levels above 100.
It never seems to bother young people. And some people love the heat. Supposedly the high humidity levels are good for our skin. We don't wrinkle like those in drier climates.
We have beautiful falls, winters and springs. 40s and 60s.
But the summers are hot.
