So far this winter, California and the West Coast has had rougher weather than the rest of the USA.

I'm actually planning on a trip to NOLA this year. I wanted to go in the spring but probably this fall. I know its hotter than the devil's ass crack in summer.

You got that right. But many people don't mind the heat. And some actually love it --- I'M NOT ONE OF THEM !!!

On the other hand, I think people who live up north don't know what they are missing. We never have to deal with snow, ice, or sub freezing temperatures.

I know. I feel so badly for you guys. Apparently I'm not alone. It's been one of the first stories on the American national news.

That is absolutely terrifying, Deb. I hope you and your loved ones are all safe. I feel bad for all the people who have lost their homes (and lives), but my heart is bleeding for all the wildlife caught in the fires too.

Thanks for your concern HirundoRustica and movieliker. Since I last wrote that post on here the other night the latest reports are saying there have been over 500 homes lost to the fires since New Year's Eve so it has destroyed more than double what it had before which is an example of how quickly these fires are tearing through towns and we are seeing towns evacuated now and looking like ghost towns 'cause the firefighters don't think they can stop the fires so they are just getting out as many people as they can. 19 people have been killed and over a dozen are missing and if you are interested in the size 6 million hectares of land has been burned by the fires and when compared to London the total area of land that has been lost so far covers from Birmingham in the North-West to Hastings on the South East Coast and we had a huge Mega Blaze on the Gospers Mountain and the size of that alone was said to be seven times the size of Singapore. Some really sad news about the wildlife is it is believed over 500 million animals have been killed and many of them have been koalas and kangaroos but there are rescue teams coming in from different states helping to rescue animals and they have been successful with saving a lot of koalas and they have taken them to zoos where they are being looked after.

Just like the animals the firefighters have managed to save a lot of people too and the latest reports were saying they saved up to 9000 homes in the last few days and I find it best to always try and look at the positives 'cause there are so many negatives at the moment and a lot of people's lives are never going to be the same.
