Such a wonderful show! Starring Clive Owen and directed by Steven Soderbergh I thought I would start a thread if anyone would like to discuss. If you haven't watched it, I really recommend checking it out. In my opinion it was very well done.

I really enjoyed this show. The directing was amazing. It and the music lent so much to the overall 'feel' of the series. As gross as some of the medical procedures could be, I think it was just at the right level and not too over-the-top (at least in my opinion, anyway). All the characters and their different dynamics were very interesting.
I know Gallinger was a rather horrible person, but I did enjoy seeing Eric Johnson (who played Lana's boyfriend, Whitney, in Season 1 of Smallville) playing another unlikable character. I'd actually seen him beforehand in an episode of Supernatural and he conveyed menace very well there when playing a demon. Seems he's making quite the career out of it, playing yet another unlikable fellow in the movie Fifty Shades Darker. However, on the commentaries, he's quite amusing (as is Jeremy Bobb who played Barrow) and everyone makes it quite clear that he's nothing like his character in real life.
Also, the series introduced me to Eve Hewson, for which I am grateful (I wish Lucy and Bertie could've been a thing, but it was not to be). I also really liked Juliet Rylance as Cornelia and how Thackery came to gradually 'respect' Algernon in his own way. Sister Harriet and Cleary also had an interesting relationship.
Any word yet on another season? If it did continue, I'm not sure if it'd have the same 'feel' to it as the first two seasons, which would be a shame, as everything came together to make the series what it was - the acting, the directing, sets, costumes and music.

Soderberg did say that he would be involved in an article I read from variety. I will find the link and post it. It will be set in the future though but that past cast members could possibly play different characters. I'm picturing something like American Horror Story.
And Sister Harriet and Cleary were awesome! I loved every bit of it but was happiest to see this mentioned for some reason. I think because he was so rough around the edges, yet cared so much for her.

Thanks for the link.
While on the one hand I would like to see these actors again, I'm not sure how I'd feel about them playing new characters (I do watch AHS, but that's more out morbid curiosity). I guess one can't judge until we actually see how it turns out.
And the good thing about doing a different story with different characters is, if it turns out to be no good, then you can just pretend the show ended with Season 2. I imagine Soderbergh wouldn't move forward with it if he didn't have every faith that it could be as good as the first two seasons, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

That's how I was originally looking at it, as if it was ending with Season 2. I also thought Soderbergh had said he was done with season 2 as well... so yes we will just have to wait and see as you said.

I really like "period pieces" so the costumes and sets were wonderful. Plus I like anything medical-related. There were some dark and twisted storylines in here. I think one of the most upsetting (can't recall names at the moment, it's been a while) was when the lorry driver actually turned the Sister in for the abortions. That shocked me that he'd stoop that low!
Some of those surgery scenes were brilliant!

Remember the teeth pulling episodes.
I remember that treatment,--- in as much as it was told to me by my aunt that her mother, my grandmother, had all of her teeth pulled "prophylactically" because of her displaying signs of ill health.
It was eventually revealed to her by another health care professional that that particular practice was arcane and no longer performed, but it was too late.
Brilliant show, with unnerving filming and the most intriguing style.

I absolutely loved this show. Great acting and writing. I wish they would bring it back.
