...were individual sports?
I mean they would still be terrible games, but think about it, in cricket there are only 2 guys who are doing anything at any one point, the bowler and the batter, the other 20 guys are either doing nothing, or next to nothing. Same really with baseball.
So why not just turn them into individual sports?

What would that even mean, to turn then into "individual sports"? Well you would have a batter and a bowler, and they just take turns at throwing it at each other. So you have to be an all rounder. You'd have to make some slight tweaks to the rules, but you could have tournaments and stuff, like Wimbledon or the US Open, the games could be a lot shorter, would be a lot more fun I think. I mean it would still be a diabolical sport, but not as diabolical. |

The real things that make up cricket interesting are little things like clever field placements, batting order, smart bowling changes, chaos and confusion in the field in exciting circumstances and the biggest of them all the mental strength to outsmart the opposition with tactics. It is less a game of reflexes and more of tactics, intelligence and exploiting weakness of those who are not mentally strong. |

But I dunno, let it sink in for a day or two, be open minded. Change can be good. |

OR, you put like grid markings on the pitch, if the ball bounces in the 2 point area, you score 2 points, if the ball lands in the 3 point area... well I think you're getting the drift. Either way would be a massive improvement in my opinion. |

i get your game - its a game. we all played it as kids in pairs..
its what we did. its fine for a bit of fun... but ultimately a bollox spectacle
but its not test cricket with the complexities and variations that make it so interesting.

I can't say I'm an expert in cricket (or baseball) but I think you might be overplaying the level of complexity in fielding. C'mon, they're just standing there, and occasionally, occasionally throwing the ball back.
This change, it pits man against man, one on one, winner takes it all. The emotion, the drama, the rivalries. Now that's box office, not 20 men standing in a field.

its just what us used to do before video games man- we got out and played sport and invented stuff up with games without full teams.
regarding fielder i was a very good catcher and run out loads from a young age - so yes. but i didn't play much serious cricket after juniour school- more football and golf.
