Has to be the Godfather trilogy. All three of them are important. Though the third one got bad reviews, I was stunned by how good it was, and surprised by the real life events they wove into it. You can't go wrong watching this trilogy.

The Godfather (1972). I'm absolutely in love with the classic James Cagney movies as well. Now that's a tough guy persona that's hard to surpass. Even Bogart got the shivers.
