Too bad you can't fool vending machines with foreign currency. NOT SO: I don't know if you still can or not however, I haven't tried it in a couple of decades, but the English 5 pence coin used to work the same as U.S. quarter and the old 1/2 (half) pence coin used to work as a dime due to similar size and weight. I used to use them in Vending machines all the time. Talk about saving money, it was great. lol. Nowadays coins have changed so who knows. As for receiving foreign change, like others it's usually Canadian coins. I need to take my original statement back there. A few weeks ago I noticed I had a Newer Canadian quarter in with my change, then a few days later while feeding some quarters into a soft drink machine filled with Pepsi products (soda, soda-pop, cola, coke, whatever you prefer to call it) I must have put the Canadian Quarter in because a check of my change later it wasn't with the other coins. The vending machines now-days I think mostly rely on the coin's weight and size. Sometimes they can be a bit moody too. Sometimes I have to feed a specific coin into the machine several times before it accepts it. I used to have this problem with older coins, but it can be brand new coins or very old coins, or coins with a lot of gunk on them if the machine is moody sometimes you have to use a different coin.
