So I checked out the spacesaver spare tyre in my 2013 Nissan Xtrail, and the manual says don't drive over 80km (or km/hr?), and drive only on bitumen. OK.
The car has 17" low profile alloy wheels and tyres. It seems Nissan had some 16" steel rims from an old model, got cheap tyres from Kumho and called them spacesavers. The real wheel fits in the well easily.
Going into central Australia I wouldn't travel in the desert without 2 spares so I got another 17" alloy rim with a 2nd hand tyre for $200, which sits on the roof with 30l of water and 20l fuel.
What a con-trick! Can't Nissan be sued for fraud?
