Our HR department is OK, but our billing department...holy fuck they are terrible. They are terrible at their jobs and they are terrible people on top of it. Just talking to them is like having your soul run crushed in a vice. Miserable fucks, the lot of them.

dont employ one-so i suppose its me, none of my lads give me sh-te though -as most are self employed so its on them - but i could be banished from doing that soon..(if i get a visit from the wrong department ) because not many have other work. they work full time for me... ..my apprentices, however are all employed, so I give em holidays , equipment, pay there NI -also bonuses for the absoloute sh-te pay they get,(at least 150 extra a month- unless they really piss me of) they get public liability , use of vans, public indemnity, full training, colledge days to become fully qualified. some of them phones,i get grants of the government though. They have no set hours or places to be though - if they have to be in newcastle on saturday - they are in newcastle on saturday - if they then have to go to brighton - they go to brighton.... its a tough gig. the self employed lads kill it(money wise) if they have to do that sort of work...so some whinge , but that doesnt last long as the pay is pretty good. there is too much red tape at big firms- i play my own rules , hard but fair. my lads do well without the need for government intervention - if i went over 1m turnover however i would be on the radar and have to offer full time work to the vast majority which would cost them all about 1k a month (but only benefit about 200 in pension and get some holiday) and they couldnt claim on tax expense claims each year (average 3k) - This is in the scenario if i was to make the same profit margin due to employment red tape. most would leave and i would have to re employ and have a much different relationship based on rules and fcking bollox)- which is the irony of it all. i wouldnt want to work in that environment at all. its not my style at all.

Just talking to them is like having your soul run crushed in a vice. Miserable fucks, the lot of them. i've had my 'run-ins' in the past. always nice to leave a job with your head held high, being nothing but complementary and positive of your former employer thanking them for the opportunity despite the typical political BS everyone puts up with at every company - that's life - boo hoo. however - either leaving on a good note (which is always recommended) or leaving with 2 middle fingers in the air - i've always viewed HR as the the shallowest phonies on the face of earth - just worms - playing by the book their whole life - probably single with 10 cats - never been married, no kids, no prospects - and enjoy having their thumb above others because of their position in the company - a position they pursued because maybe they felt a little vindictive in life......

what do you do frog?
HR are needed in big firms though - they protect the employees, even f it doesnt feel like that. and yes the directors want sticklers - the last thing anyone wants is a fcking lawsuit over something due to a non 'anal' hr employee making decisions based on merit or real truth or motivation over rules.
I would employ the most anal HR employee ever if i had to employ all my workers.

(trained monkeys can do it - like a lot of things in life - task based/project management oriented) bartend PT on the weekends i like a 'straight shooter' in life. and i know that's unrealistic at times. if it's me and you talking eye to eye behind closed doors - drop the BS. have just never gotten that feeling with my dealings in HR. 'Company Men/Women' so to speak. And I agree - I think it's necessary to an extent - I just don't like dealing with them - feel as if I'm getting talked to by a used car salesman.

I used to do a lot of stuff like that - in rm reporting - the droid doing the easy stuff- i worked in risk managemnet but i was no risk manager - i just reported for them and made automated systems on excel and access. which to be far wasnt to bad - i made a 6 hour work day into a 30 minute one due to automating them. then lehmans went bankrupt lol.
I never ever got involved in HR - however i used to date a a recruitment consultant that head hunted them -and i met loads after work drinking. they seemed fine out the office with a drink. most were pretty fit women in there 20's back then!
and it paid well - they were getting up to 850 sterling (at 1.84 pounds to the dollar) a day temping for the big city and canary wharf giants.

Human Resources is ALWAYS the enemy, and I've have some jobs with some of the worst of them. That being said, the HR department at my current job is actually pretty good.
