Liverpool defenders are lacking composure. They're just belting the ball anywhere away from the penalty area. Van Djik would have started a few attacks if he was playing. Mane is being ignored. He's the invisible man out in the left, something that Klopp will surely address. I fancy Liverpool to score again

Lucky there. Milner has to come on. I thought we'd give Moreno a chance in the CL games after his friendly performances, but no way, he's still shit.

That should do it.

Milner, from a tightish angle, screwed it towards goal, and with a Nordtveit deflection, it sails home for 0-2 on '74.

Uth chests it down on the edge of the area and drills it past Mignolet to give hope to Hoffenheim with full time fast approaching.

As expected...
Freiburg, Hoffenheim...Jesus, Köln, Hertha...a game with Jigsaw had a better ending.

Van Dyke better be getting fit at Southampton, we need him to hit the ground running when he comes. Can't believe we won that game.

Good win for Liverpool. Salah's ability to take the ball deep into the opposition half was crucial. Hoff missed a few chances, especially that awful penalty. That should see Liverpool through

As expected... Freiburg, Hoffenheim...Jesus, Köln, Hertha...a game with Jigsaw had a better ending. It's getting annoying. You're projecting your - completely justified - frustration with your own club onto sides that have a fraction of your squad's quality or market value. Today a Hoffenheim squad with no international experience and worth 120m € managed by a 30 year old newbie lost against a Liverpool side worth 458m €, managed by an allegedly world class manager you desperately want at Bayern (personally, I'll take Nagelsmann over Klopp any day). What exactly do you expect from those teams? Who bought Hoffe's best two players this summer again? You know the vast majority of Bayern's fans are desperate to get Nagelsmann as Ancelotti's successor - some of them wanted him this summer. Get a sense of perspective. That team did well today, what got in their way was nerves, missing two players your club bought, and a lack of individual quality up front. Nagelsmann is still the better coach, even at his young age, than Klopp, as far as I'm concerned.

The 'village' club did well in their first ever European tie against the five times European champions. Perspective needed, on a different night, that match could easily have been an embarrassment for the latter.

Hoffenheim has 3,000 inhabitants. It's a village alright.
My frustration is with other issues than bluerisk's. Last time I've seen Hoffenheim play as intelligently was under Rangnick. All Nagelsmann needs is a bit more individual quality, especially up front, and we’re not talking Manchester size budgets here. It‘s the same story all over again. Tactically intelligent, innovative, creative coaches being let down by owners and CEOs focused only on short-term money. Rangnick, Tuchel, Nagelsmann. It's always the same. Couple of months ago Hopp said that Nagelsmann would cost a 400m € transfer fee. He better stump up some 40m to invest into the squad, or else he’s gonna lose Julian for the same reasons he lost Ralf, and then he won't have to ponder over coach transfer fees.

But Hoffenheim must be scouting guys from abroad. I mean I assume the lad who missed the penalty last night couldn't have been German.

Kramaric came from Leicester, for 10m. Was Hoffenheim's record signing. Scouting hasn't been what it used to be back in their first years in the Bundesliga. They had some idiotic signings, most notably Kevin Kuranyi. What a joke to bring him back from Russia just because they could sign him for free. Most of you probably don't know much about the background of that club. Hoffenheim is basically the older and smaller half-sibling of RB Leipzig. They are both what you could call start-up clubs, created either from scratch (RB) or from a 7th division team (Hoffenheim). Same blueprint, same "father". Here's an article with a bit of the backstory and a comparison. bundesligafanatic.com/will-rb-leipzig-collapse-like-hoffenheim-did-in-their-debut-bundesliga-season/

He'll have that when he takes the reins from 'The Eyebrow One' though whether he can massage the massive egos in place is a different matter, still, his prospective employers hierarchy will once again have been impressed with Germany's 'Special One'.
