17 years before Rust Cohle and Marty Hart, Angel Heart takes us to Louisiana for some twisted voodoo and ritualized bloodshed. Props for casting Charlotte Rampling. De Niro is chilling and he steals every scene he's in. Mickey Rourke lacks some charisma here, for me, but the atmosphere is solid, slowly heightening dread until the highly satisfying twist ending. Crazy sex scene with Lisa Bonet.
Enjoyable and creative, though it took its time getting going. 7/10

I quite liked this one. Loved the setting and yeah, De Niro was a scene stealer for sure. Thought Rourke was a pretty strong lead too.
7.5/10

I thought it was an awful film. De Niro with his long nails and eating boiled eggs. Disgusting! It's definitely one of his worst roles.

Just another Hollywood formula neo Nazi hate movie preaching the death of beautiful women with dark hair. That's all it is. Anyone who thinks it is more is a lunatic and liar. I can see where jealous women like it, but no guy likes it, except those wimps who can't handle being jilted by the hot brunette at the dance. Too depressing a world for straight guys, though.
1/10

...interesting dialogue, and DeNiro's character name Louis Cypher = Lucifer was a nice touch...

Seriously? Some of those stinkers from the 90s were watchable because of him. And we're not talking about stinkers from the 90s, are we? My point being that is that Rourke pretty much never lacks charisma, Dumbo. Especially if it's a film that's the polar opposite of those crappy 90s films.

Don't get upset, princess. I like Rourke in plenty of other films.

I liked it. Full of dread and creepy atmosphere. I thought Mickey Rourke did a good job as a guy who was SUPPOSED to kind of shady and slimey.

Sample user review (not mine) As so often, the plot has been laid out often enough. So straight to the point: This movie sounds interesting and has an acceptable concept. Technically, it's well done; good acting (Rourke, De Niro, Bonet), dark atmosphere, a convincing set. Its only fault is: It's boring and way more ambitious than what it delivers in the end. (Spoilers ahead) The age-old subject of a man selling his soul to the devil and then trying to cheat his way out of the deal may still be appealing but it only works if the cheater is at least a bit likable. Harry Angel (the obvious pun is annoying either) isn't. He's a brute, a bully, a loser. Someone you don't care about at all. Who cares if he loses his soul? To make this waste of celluloid a bit more interesting, they thrust in some voodoo, some half-incestuous sex and lots of blood. Unfortunately, it's all uninspired and looks like a gumbo soup. Better spend two hours cooking instead of watching this piece of crap.
as for this: Incredibly lousy movie on so many levels. Not a fraction as lousy as you & your posting skills OK then. That surely was on Topic. Good job. Have a nice day and good luck with that gas problem.
