Even though I watched 'The Road Warrior' first, the original 'Mad Max' is my favorite in the series for several reasons. It is the only movie in which we see Max Rockatansky as a family man, the only one in which we see and experience his loss. I like the stripped-down energy the whole movie has and the quirky humor in certain scenes. Also, it's the only MM movie in which we see Max driving the V-8 Interceptor for any great length of time!

i give it a 10, though i admit it has a couple scenes i could fast forward through. toe cutter is my favorite villain of the 4 films. the opening night rider scene, the train station guy, bubba zanetti, goose, the finale, the saw scene etc make the film stand out.

Not sure.....but I'm one of the rare people, like yourself, that likes this one over Road Warrior.

5/10, I really wanted to like this, but in the end it felt just a tad too mediocre. The main characters are well written and everyone delivers good performances. There are some great moments and the last 30 minutes or so have good setpieces and tension filled scenes. But for most of the time the movie feels amauteurish (makes sense considering the budget, but still many movies do a lot better with a similar budget) and meandering without making a point. I usually like slow-paced action movies, but this one just didn't do it for me. It also had almost no emotional weight to me, which is unfortunate because there's definitely a lot of potential there considering the plot.

8/10. I know this isn’t technically that good but it has a great setup and I liked the realistic approach with this original film.
